TD5 miss fire after 15 seconds and hot relay ?
Afternoon all, can anyone shed any light on this one ?
04 red TD5 90 has a misfire after approx 10 to 15 seconds after first starting, cleaned MAF, no oil in red plug, and no smoke from exhaust. If I turn it off and restart it does exactly the same thing, not much power which is understandable. Only thing I have noticed is the centre relay under the drivers seat is warm / hot to touch, is this normal or should they be cold ?
It has 59k miles from new. Fuel pump sounds fine, new oil, oil filters and fuel and air filter 800 miles ago.

Wouldn't have thought the relay should be hot to touch.

Mine certainly isn't.

Mind you, it is worth you giving them all the once over including their bases/connections.

A loose/poor connection can cause a high resistance and therefore get hot.

That said, I'm only responding to the relay observation, not the overall symptoms Confused

From my experience relays do get warm if they are activated for more than a minute or so, even without current passing through..

Not saying it isn't the relay, always worth trying a new one just to be sure Thumbs Up

New relays and injector wiring loom on their way so will report back after they are fitted.

Netherlands 2003 Defender 90 Td5 PU Caledonian Blue
As my relays are between my seats now to increase the possible water level, I will feel my relays tonight when I drive back. I expect them to be cold or cool, not hot.
So I think it might be the relay. Roel

One off the relays get hand warm, not hot after a 20 minute drive. Roel

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Today I fitted the new relays and didn't make any difference so fitted the new injector loom and all seems well now, off on a trip out tomorrow so hopefully will be all ok.
