Hi Stacey,
1) It promises 99mpg but in reality only provides a 1/4 of that 😉. It also allows adjustable intermittent windscreen wipers which is something I missed coming from a 'normal' car.
2) Its a cover over the open heater intake to stop rain and snow falling straight in. If you search 'snow cowl' you'll find the usual solution to that problem, but this is my more subtle and cheaper method!
Cheers.

Hi Andy,

Yes the 110usw was a great purchase, not as 'light' as the 90 to drive but so much better for all we use it for:Kids, dogs, travelling etc...in fact pretty much everything we use it for!
The 2.2 has taken a little getting used to with its funny rev thingy and Im still feeling relived when i hop into the 90 when I manage to steal the keys back from my better half.
The tyres will temporarily be going on dual alloys as I have decided a roof rack is a slightly more practical purchase than another set of wheels, so I just need to work out what the most sensible size tyre to go for is regarding the offset etc.
All enjoyable quandaries though!
Enjoy the USW!
Cheers,
Leon.

Lined up the next mod today, but not convinced. What are the collectives thoughts - whether to fit the OEM raised air intake or not...?
I don't intend driving deep water and you never know, infact I wasn't expecting to kill my previous Discovery's engine in water but it happened. Also, when I took the side grille off the 110 today whilst trial fitting the RAI there was 15mm of water just sat in the ducting from being parked out in the rain.
For those who say the RAI is not water tight anyway, correct, but I've managed to get a Nugget Stuff Duct (http://www.nuggetstuff.com/defenderairbox.html), so idea was it will be fully water tight back to the air box.
My hesitation is, i'm not sure I like the look of it!!

If it helps, it looks like you've stuck the leg off a clothes shop mannequin on the wing of an otherwise great looking machine Thumbs Up

Haha, that is exactly my thought but couldn't convey it - nice one!

Thanks for the comments so far, for those that have one do you notice any increase in induction noise? I already get a fair amount when lugging, and with the intake position now being much closer it must be worse. Whether its audible over the rest of the din is the question...

I fitted one to my last 110...

The good news is it actually QUIETENS the induction noise! You cannot hear that sucking 'roar' that the standard intake makes so from that point of view, it's great! Smile

As for looks... if I had my time again on my 110 I would not have fitted one. I think they are too dominant visually. But in OZ, with water crossings a possibility (with the whole system properly sealed as well!!) and dust a reality, they are probably a good idea if you are going exploring! YOLO... I think it looks good... But agree they probably blend in better with the rack and other expedition stuff..... I might get one and fab up a nice bracket from the top to the rack so I can avoid any rivnuts. Andy

Thanks to those who helped me decide, the RAI will be going in the for sale section soon, along with a few other bits.
We'll probably have loads of rain now I've said that...

Good decision Andy... Thumbs Up

Mamba had a Safari snorkel fitted, without proper water proofing, and I always thought it ugly... Whistle

Unless you really need one, why spoil a perfectly presentable motor from pretty much any angle... Rolling Eyes

Although I appreciate others do have different opinions of course... Cool

As for the rain, I guess we need someone to make an air intake with protective louvres, designed to keep most moisture out but not impede air intake... Mr. Green
