you will need spacers on if you want to keep the hubcap cover on the boosts

There is some discussion of torques in page 12 of this thread... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic31672-165.html
MY16 owners book has 170 Nm (125 ft.lb) for 7" alloys... https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/c...e79!!3!225 |

Very strange if topics says 170Nm for 7" alloys. I just logged on to topix and on page 114 of the user manual it reads as copied below:
9. With all wheels on the ground and the jack removed, fully tighten the wheel nuts in the sequence indicated above to the correct torque of 133 Nm (98 lb.ft). I think the 170Nm applies to 6.5" HD Wolf wheels only. Eric You never actually own a Defender. I can well believe you, so two possibilities as topix for my 2009 model still reads 133Nm today....
1. the recommended torque for 7" alloys has increased from the 133Nm for a 2009 model Puma to 170Nm for those that roll out of Solihull now. 2. there is a misprint in the topix for the current model years where someone accidentally used typed the 170Nm for the HD Wolfs also as the number for the alloys. Seems a question for our dear Ryan of Land Rover Customer Relations. His collegues inside should be able to clarify which numbers are correct for each of those wheels and if there are any changes in recommended torque between 2009 and today. Until further notice, I continue to use what is written in my topix for 5" alloys, i.e. 133Nm Ryan, please comment. Eric You never actually own a Defender. This is now going off-topic, but as you have asked Ryan to comment - there is a definite error in MY116 manual I noticed recently. The index entry for fuel tank capacity points to page 114. But it clearly isn't on page 114.
Where there is one error...maybe more? Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Actually the 'wide hub' drive members which prevent the fitting of those alloys continued into Defender production. They disappeared when the 300Tdi came in and brought the thinner hubs and drive members.

Hi everyone, thanks very much for your input, I fitted the wheels to my 2011 defender yesterday torqueing the wheels to about 130 nm. They look great! It even seems to drive better! The only thing I was not sure about was as to whether to remove the small rubber dust cap from the centre of the hub but they seemed to fit over them ok.Cheers Rob
