I would buy genuine wheels, copies from Taiwan look great, but if they are not up to the job, it's a false economy. At 70 MPH a wheel fails it may kill you (or damage your Landy), OEM wheels are £180 each, just pay the money is my advice.

I can't remember where I've seen them but there are plenty of pictures of a copy saw-tooth wheel that's failed and when you compare the amount of material to the real thing then they are pretty light.
Personally, the extra cost of genuine isn't huge - ask Dan @ Duckworths - IIRC they aren't as expensive as you might fear - so stick with what LR intended. Good luck! |

There is the photo of a pair of wheels that have been sectioned to show the difference in manufacture but as for one that has actually failed, I have not seen it myself. The thread that was on this forum started some lively debate but at the end of it I am not certain that anyone had any actual evidence that the wheels made by one manufacturer were less safe than those from another or that a wheel had actually failed. There was a photo of a Stormer copy that had failed but not a Sawtooth. I stand to be corrected if such photos exist. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

..... Convenient memory loss! ![]() Litch, just for clarification purposes...... The thread is in the link below. I posted the pictures of a failed copy wheel as an example in my first response but it was NOT a Sawtooth but a Stormer, you are correct . http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39161....e+sawtooth Riccarton if you have memory recall please post pictures or the link please. I personally would never really consider buying copies but many have and this would be of great interest and concern to those that have perhaps? With the popularity of that style wheel I would have thought somebody else would have stumbled on a failure and posted it up pretty damn quick? I too will stand to be corrected if such a failure has indeed come to light! ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I've definately seen images of a failed one but can't for the life of me remember where - I'll trawl around some of the other sites I've visited and see if anything comes up.
I'm sure I saw the failed Stormer over on Fullfat? Memory isn't what it used to be ![]() |
