Internal lighting question
Hi All,

Got a small problem with the interior lights in Gertie our 1999 110 station wagon in that when you open any door, the lights don't come on. All the lights work if you use their switch to switch them on, but opening a door .... nope.

If it were just one door switch I'd suspect wiring somewhere near the door switch but as its all of them I'm more inclined to think its somewhere near the 12V supply that isn't powered up so it doesn't matter if the door switch is open or closed. No power, no light.

The Haynes manual is kind enough to show me wiring diagrams up to 1996 .... and then picks up again from about 200x which would be fine if

a). Gertie wasn't 1999 vintage
b). Actually showed you physically where some of the connections were

Could someone point me at there the +ve feed might start off from. Behind instrument cluster? Fuse box on transmission tunnel ? Somewhere else?

Rgds

The interior light is permanently live, and the switches provide a ground connection. If the light works from the manual switch, then there is power to the light.

It is not inconceivable that all the door switches have failed, though it seems odd that they have failed all at the same time. Firt thing I would do is unscrew one of the door switches from the pillar and manuall ground the wire going to the switch to a known good grounding point. If the light comes on, the fault is the switches. If the light doesn't come on, it's time for a rethink.

Sounds like a plan, as soon as I've put the started motor back in after renewing the brushes ..... Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb
