For us it is amazing
We built our own on a lwb crafter. It gives you the freedom to move in easily. We tour around a lot. Stay a few nights and explore then move on. When you're on a day out, you have it with you for lunch etc. I wasn't as inclined to tour as much with a caravan We've been away every weekend of the summer pretty much, plus 2 weeks France Switzerland Germany. Go explore |

Thanks Rich that's one the reasons why we went for it. We found that when we arrived on site with the tin tent and set it up with the awning, we were there for the duration of the holiday using the Puma as the tour vehicle. We would go a good distance in our daily travels but at the back of my mind was the drive back to the caravan at the end of the day. Our thinking is that we will stay at places for a night or two then move on factoring in visits to places of interest on the way to the next site.

you can do more than 60 mph
you can rattle down the fast lane depending on weight of the van. go for a big engine model or else they are so slow and can drink fuel when worked hard. most of the 5-6 berth ones we have hired can do a real world 25mpg which beats most tow cars and wobbly boes try to buy a rear wheel drive one as the front wheel drive ones eat tyres and get stuck just looking at grass carry spare wing mirrors with you as folk just love breaking them as they pass you |

There's definitely more freedom with a van,I've also built my own ,based on a lwb citroen.its fully knitted out and one of the best things is being able to park up and everything is ready in the back( especially when it's raining). Also it's much easier to wildcamp with a van.

We also have MH on order, scheduled for delivery early 2016.
There are loads of tips etc on motorhome use on www.motorhomefun.co.uk which is another forum on which I'm a member. We have got so much good info from there (although you have to sift through some not so good threads too ) Don't forget motorhome and caravan show at NEC next week (I think starts next Wednesday?) where there will be loads of bling to spend hard earned money on in anticipation of your new arrival. Good luck with it and hope to see you on the road next year |

We have motorhome and defender as one (or not as one), see gallery.
Motor homes can have have traction and ground clearance issues as well as payload limitations. If you have been used to loading up the defender and your tin tent then look carefully at the max useful payload with some motor homes. Richard 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper |

We ran a motorhome for 3 years and loved it. We looked at many before we bought one and ended up with a 4t 7.5m motorhome. We had some great times in it, we used to park up and bike walk everywhere. However, SWMBO suffered health problems and it became difficult for her to get about and the motorhome was too big to get out and about in.
We switched to a tin tent and Defender so that we had transport. Preference - the motorhome wins hands down. |

Hi Brian
Have ran a motorhome for the last 10 years or so,, and there's not been once, had any reason to tow a tin tent instead As its a dual purpose vehicle, ie, has to tow both the race box and Hybrid 90, as well as a normal MH, it has to be a large one, Just back from 2 weeks south of France and Corsica rally etc Sign up for Motorhome facts as mentioned http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ There is not perfect van,, all a compromise,, you need a Must have, and Be nice list,, After borrowing a number for years, and owing 5 or 6 over the last 10 years, recon i have just what i presently need now California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

I've just spent 2 weeks in TJ's MH.
It was great to ride in through France. Served as base camp in the service area of the rally. And then a mammoth sprint back through France to spend the night in Ypres. Comfy to a point. It ain't no luxury car but it's not uncomfortable. Would I buy one?? No. Simply because I couldn't justify having that amount of cash sat there most of the year doing nothing. If I had bottomless pockets, maybe. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |
