I have used both: Waxoyl 1275 GT Mini / TVR Taimar / 300tdi Defender SWB Dinitrol 2.4tdci Defender 90 My observations would be: 1. Both are good. 2. Quality of Preparation and Application will determine their success. 3. I would not 'mix' the Products, generally as this stuff sticks to itself best. 4. Dinitrol was easy to work with, but the difference overall is probably marginal. 5. Appearance of Black Dinitrol (4941) is really good when applied. 6. If I do this again (on a new vehicle) currently it will be Dinitrol. 7. When the 90 gets more, it will be Dinitrol. Waxoyl Vs Dinitrol analogy PC Vs Mac...your either one side or the other, but both are very capable. There are some super tough plastic / synthetic coatings out there that are generally out of reach of a DIYer or even Specialist Independent both by price and the methods of application needed to apply them correctly. With a move towards Aluminium and Composites for vehicle manufacture (even rumored for the replacement Defender) what we are doing for Steel is a necessary step to preserve it but one that may well be designed out...eventually. X4SKP I had my Defender originally done with Waxoyl since then I have topped up and treated where necessary with Dinitrol. Both are very good products in their own right and I agree wholeheartedly with your reasoning and points above. Waxoyl can be a messy affair and a ba5t4rd to work with in lower temperatures unless you can pinch a baking tray from SWMBO to stick some Waxoyl in to warm in the oven or have a wood burner on which you can warm the stuff on in the tin. Dependent on outside temperature your window of opportunity to get the stuff applied before it turns to chewing gum can be small indeed.

Thanks Guys - its reassured me
I leave it in the airing cupboard to warm...always works well, except it was a pig when starting to cool on Saturday (not a warm day) Going drinitol for the last few bits purely because ive run out of all waxoyl now and the drinitol aerosol seems like it might be easier to get in the top of the bulkhead and doors without getting out the compressor cleaning etc Im never too bothered about appearance underneath although it looks fine - probably a brand new chassis helped with that one. Just the axles left underneath to do Mike |
