The right choice
Hi all,

I am new here but I could have been here for a while - I am a real Defender lover and I soon will own one! Smile

Anyway - I am here because I have some questions - as I want to become a Defender owner until end of the year I have to clear some things!

First - my budget is up to 8000 Euros (+VAT). I have browsed all cars from mobile.de, autoscout24 etc. I am sure I can not get a dtci, most probably I will buy a TD5. So the question is - should I buy one that costs 8000 Euros or better would be to get one for 5000 if possible and invest the 3000 in winch, exchanging parts etc?

The other question is about repairing - I understand of corse that it is a kind of lottery, depending what I buy, but I've heard that almost all TD5 need service every 2 month? I mean - they break down regularly?

The main thing is - I really want to get a Defender with a limited budget. What should I do? Maybe someone has a car for sell as well? Smile

I will really appreciate your help as I am new in the community and really want to become a member.
Oh - about the planned usage - I want with the Defender drive a bit in the city, drive with it hunting, to the country side, do some travels/ trips around the eastern Europe!

Thanks to all!

Hi, welcome to the forum Very Happy
In your position, I'd spend about 7K on the vehicle and keep 1K in reserve for anything that maybe necessary (Repairs, servicing, etc.)
Once you feel comfortable with it, use any remaining cash to start customising.

Is it actually realistic to get a +/- fine Def for 7k? Maybe you can suggest some places where to look for the Def besides mobile? Thanks!

Buy the best vehicle that you can afford............
The TD5 is reliable model if looked after so try and go for one with a good service history. Have yo thought about a 300tdi? Engine is easier for home mechanics, you would get a decent one for that budget.
Not sure where would be the best places to look in europe, but plenty around over here.

Good luck Life is not a rehearsal!

I sought a lot of advice and did a lot of research. The most common advice was to spend the money on the defender and not shiny bolt ons.

What Laurie says makes perfect sense. You may well be lucky and find both!
