Yes from Middlesmoor, however the drop down to the reservoir needs to be taken with care and if you are not sure (experienced) a spotter Adventure isn't paved!

Certainly not ugly but not empty either....
Fab walk with Mrs Grenadier over the weekend to a small valley that branches off ours. Peace and quiet at the foot of Mont Blanc by the Domes des Miages. As much solitude as can be mustered here, because access is so difficult. Mrs G was not a little worried when I started implying I could see myself living in a shack up there. . Not likely to happen in the near future, however, it has led to a an open-ended 'leave pass' to get away on the bike or the Defender when ever I want, Bergen in the back, to tab into the boondocks on lonely over-nighters.... True - having 15 times as many people to fit into only 2.5 times the land area would make France a bit more crowded!
Bergen? Has there been an outcome to the "what dog?" discussion? PS. Yesterday was another pretty spring sunset so I explored a different back road near home... Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

I guessed as much, I run a mobile photography community and thought I recognised the likely source... Rog... The GREEN One... MY2016 Urban Truck Build Thread - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40548....al[/color] |

The Chamonix valley extends to 250km2, but this includes a lot of the summits, inaccessible terrain etc. In real terms it is approx 25kms long and 1km wide, when thinking of its urbanised, usable area. The valley has a permanent population (between the communes of Chamonix and Les Houches) of approximately 12,600 giving it a density of 42/km2, but when you factor in visitors (75,000 per day in Winter, or 120,000 in summer) this shoots up to between 250 and 400/km2!! That is over its entire communal area. When thinking of just the valley floor (where 90% of people live) obviously you can times those figures by 10. So over the communal area it is twice that of ChCh and far in excess of NZ's average of 17/km2!! Pick a sunny, mid-summer's day and think of most visitors being in the valley bottom (25km2) and you start hitting a density twice that of Auckland!! Hell's teeth.... A 'Bergen' is the name for the Armed Forces issue large rucksack. As for the Dog, Mrs G still on the fence as to whether we have one or not at all, but if we do (I think the review would be in the New Year) then it will be a Male, black Lab, Gun Dog. Had the good fortune to meet (IMO) a perfect version a week or so ago and they just seem perfect. Fingers crossed.... Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
