Clutch rattle
Noticed that our '62 plate 110 with 30,000 miles has developed a rattle from the clutch.

I understand that this is likely to be caused by the springs in the driven plate becoming loose and that there has been a number of revisions of this part.

It's booked into my Local dealership (Lindacre Ipswich) on the 16th and they tell me that there is four hour's labour to remove/replace the gearbox in order to ascertain whether the clutch driven plate requires replacement. As you can probably imagine, I am not impressed with the prospect of having to pay £500+ to have this common fault investigated.

Surely if they were going to drop the box, they would put in a new clutch anyway???
As you say, it's common to rattle, and can't be much else but the clutch, other than adaptor shaft.
Seems a bit daft to me! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

Well yes, it would be ludicrous to drop the gearbox and then conclude that the clutch is fine or that it is normal wear and tear for a clutch to need replacing at 30K. However I can understand that the dealer is going to want to be paid for 4 hours labour to find out if they don't trust their ears.
