Interior lights not working
When I unlock the vehicle with the remote the interior lights flash once then stay off, even when I open the doors the lights still don't work. Both lights work manually.
Any one got any ideas???
Thanks Dave

When you say they flash do you mean in sync with indicators on unlock?

No the interior lights flash once and only lasting about one second, the indicators do what they always have and stay on for about 4 seconds.

Each of your internal lamps have a white/purple wire attached, disconnect this and check it to earth whilst opening each door in turn, each one of your door switches when the door is opened gives the circuit an earth to activate the light through each switch fixings. On the face of it it looks like this common earth may be missing/open circuit. When activating/switching the light itself on it uses a different earth and that is why it works. Good luck. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

the lights have 12V permanent, 0V permanent and a switched 0V from the 10AS which is the unit that controls the alarm and central locking. The 12V feed is always attached to one side of the lamp, and the switch selects whether the other side is connected to nothing (off), the 0V feed (on) or the 10AS (auto). The 10AS controls the dimming and everything through some sort of solid state drive (transistor or something).

Given that the manual works, we can assume that the 12V and 0V feeds are fine. If the lights consistently flash every time you try to unlock, but never do any more than that I'd be suspecting the 10AS has some sort of overload detection that's tripping.

Have you tried to see what happens with one one of the lights on auto? I don't know what sort of Defender you've got so you might have to try it with each in turn.

I had wonky interiors too and it turned out to be water getting in to the multi plug near the top of the windscreen. Roof lining out and the rot was easy to see. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Overload or underload could be a problem.
Are there bulbs fitted or LED's fitted?

I may have the same problem, the rear door light used to stay on for like 2-3 minutes at least when I open the rear door, now, it dimms immediately as I open the rear door.

My 110 HT with a single LED interior light doesn't seem to suffer from underload issues Smile

Just an update for everyone, after checking the wiring and not being able to find any faults I got a friend to plug there auto logic in and found out somehow the interior lights had been switched off in the alarm ecu. Now switched back on they are all working as they should. Thanks for everyone's help

Very odd that unless it was done by accident. Have you had any electrical issues sorted lately?

Mine have started playing up today ! Yes it been wet again, but mine do the opposite, they stay on permanently. Get the horn beep when I go to lock and they still stay on. Only way to turn off is on the fitting itself. Dealer can't look at it till the 15 th February Rolling Eyes thanks for your £30 grand see ya Ner Ner only 5 months and old !!!
Any ideas ???

Curious, Isn't the horn sound when a door is not closed when you arm the alarm?

Yes but I believe the alarm/interior lights/ central locking are all linked. It's back to normal now, but I'm thinking it could be a water ingress issue, similar to what Red Dot had
