AndrewS,..GREAT work on the House,...it's a BIG house,...all yours?
How old is it?...We haven't got much old stuff in Aus,...nothing much before the early 1800s!
Being an old Pom, I love that stuff, and seeing it preserved.
Top Job, Pickles.

You have done a great job with the house, and you have a very talented plumber. I love to see pipe work set out properly.

Thank You for the comments.

TACK yea Im back on the Ignore The Miserable Censored list as opposed to being on the Stone Him list.

Pickles The house is Grade two listed, it has been dendro dated back to 1540 however we have found saw marks that take it back to 1430 (they changed the way the timbers were sawn in 1440) basically the saw cut the timber at 45deg pre 1440 and 90deg post 1440.

The building is an aisled hall and cross wing, the 1st floor to the left was jettied out over the road by about 1.2m.

There are some hefty timbers in the property with some carved 'high status' roof trusses.

We have medieval wall paintings in what was the posh or high status end of the property. I plan to get these preserved and surveyed with view to replicating them at some point.

Our latest find is the bread oven. This pic was taken from the rear of the oven having drilled a hole in the wall to see what was in the void.

There was a cottage near the house I used to live in (in the Chilterns) where they found an unknown bread oven during renovations, and when they opened it up it contained the skeleton of an unfortunate cat which had evidently gone into the oven for a nice warm nap. Someone had then sealed the thing up and plastered over it without checking.

The cottage fronted the pavement directly, and the builders decided to display the skeleton on the front windowsill for the duration of works!

I always wondered how long the then owners spent looking for the cat before givin up on the poor thing.

Cool (or hot as it would have once been) find on the oven. Any plans on using the bread oven? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Nice work AndrewS. As in Australia our older buildings are from 1800 and only few survives due the earthquakes.
Nice work Quite impressed with the wall paintings and I hope you can recovered it.

Andrew,..what a house. Those roof trusses are UNREAL.
You are indeed a lucky man, but having said that, I know that there is a lot of forsight, skill & dollars in maintaining an historic property like that,......but,.....I'm jealous!
Well done, Pickles.
