we have a few bowers wilkins products around the house... was at a friends inlaw's which had a bang oulfsen system and it was indescribable walking between rooms without the music fluctuating at all, no quiet spots etc.

Thiel speakers, Rega Planar turntable, Pioneer CD player Cambridge phono amp and Sony AV receiver. Sounds a right mixture!
I know the Sony lets the side down but it sounds ok to me and does all the surround sound and music and TV/Projector in one box. Recently got back into vinyl and wow does it sound soo much better. |

I'm going to be the heathen hear (see what I did there )...
I used to have a reasonably decent Arcam/Naim/Mission set up; however, when I renovated my house, I took the opportunity to wire the relevant rooms with Cat5 and decent speaker cable. The result is that I have reasonably good quality ceiling mounted speakers, which are fed by a Sonos wired system running a 4TB NAS drive as the music source. All my CDs prior to the system installed had been ripped to digital using quality encoding and anything in recent years, since the NAS has been in place, has been burned using lossless audio. You could argue the sound quality isn't as perfect as a non-digital source set-up and you'd be right; however, I'd argue that sound - and spend on stereo equipment - is expenditure of significantly diminishing return vs benefit. My current set up produces excellent sound and the audio quality is ideal for what I need; furthermore, the ease of use, and access to all my music, means I listen to a lot wider variety than I ever did prior to the NAS. The icing on the cake is I can add music to any other room using wireless and each room can draw music from the NAS independently via the Sonos; therefore, in a house with various music tastes, everyone can be happy. Lastly, Jimbob, you don't have to have hugely deep pockets to set up a Sonos system and can expand it with ease when funds allow. So there is my non-audiophile approach and from someone who loves audio equipment and music and has blown a fair whack of cash on both over 40-years. |

I have an ancient second hand marantz amp and wharfedale speakers and sub hooked up to the blue ray and tv. Cheap but sounds lovely. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Probably for the connoisseurs only, but we have assembled a collection of Braun Atelier series. Absolute German top class hifi from the 1980's, and a classic modern design by Dieter Rams which does not age. With a pair of professional Braun M15 studio speakers, even today the sound remains unbeatable. You have people collecting these now, we bought everything decades ago.
By the way, one of these combinations you can see in the MOMA in New York. Eric Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. Pink Triangle Litaural CD player, Krell KAV300i amp, Sonus Faber Conertino Grand Piano speakers, all sat on Mana stands with two REL Strata's for bass.
It's taken me years to save up, audition and get it. Took ages to pick a CD player as I could hear a shrillness from most of them, even Mark Levinson stuff, but the Pink Triangle is the most vinyl sounding CD player I could find. I think the speakers are too big for my room so maybe I'll look into getting some smaller Sonus Faber Concertino's (should the finances allow). |

Bowers and Wilkins CM5's, Arcam AVR380, Rega RP1 with Performance Pack, Chord Company cables. Run by an Apple TV most of the time, I use Spotify for most. My dad loves B&O, I'm not entirely convinced that it's not inhibited somehow by form over function. To be honest, I'd look to use SONOS for most systems now, it's such a wonderful interface.

TEAC reference 300 3box system for me. Had it a good few years now, but it's still good.
Came home from sea once to find it gone from its place on the sideboard. My ex wanted to get rid of it for a crappy Phillips iPod dock thingas she thought it was too big and ugly One more reason why she's an ex |
