As I firmly tighten the lid firmly on that can of worms Laughing

I can confirm that the deed is done, and the washer/bush configuration on the in-situ 'originals' was entirely consistent with that agreed on this thread Thumbs Up

For info, the job itself took no more than an hour to complete both sides with adequate tea breaks Rolling Eyes

Let's face it, it's only two nuts, but the bush/washer configuration is important. I did spend a bit of time cleaning the axle cups given the reported issues relating to the bushes. It's surprising how much crud was in present.

I can feel the lid coming off that can....

I went for the 10mm of thread principle rather than torque setting for the bottom nut....

Thanks all Bow down

I've just bough some Terrafirma shocks for the rear of my 2003 90 and they come with a supplement to say that on post 1994 vehicles the lower cups (fixed on the axle) should be removed. Is this normal as its doesn't feel right? 2003 Defender TD5 Hardtop (current - work in progress)

To save designing two types of shock absorbers to suit early and late vehicles some aftermarket manufacturers suggest removing the fixed cups. This, combined with the bushes/washers included with the new shocks, effectively converts the vehicle to the earlier type.

Later shocks have longer pins because the bushes are deeper.

Just dragging this up again, my rear shocks are fine, its just the washers that are no use, does anyone know where I can get rear shock lower washers, as per the old set up, I have had the axle brackets replaced so no longer have captive cups. I just cant see them anywhere 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6
