May be a faulty alarm lights (hazard lights) switch? Cheers, Vincent

Well, I got Green Flag out and he reckons it's a sticking hazard switch - all working now after some silicon spray.
I think I may need a new switch soon - can anyone confirm that the part number is YUG000180LNF for a MY09 Defender? |

Well they came in again this morning and removing the hazard switch had no effect - the left hand indicators stayed on even with the keys out of the ignition.
However, switching the headlights on/off a few times did return the indicators to normal (with the headlights off) and so I'm wondering if it might be a failing/failed switch in the steering column. Coincidentally, the dealers have had the dash and steering cowling off twice in the past month and I wonder if they've created a fault (or should I say another fault, I sometimes wish I'd never pushed to get the warranty work done...)? |

This is a very weird fault!
The headlamp switch has no connection with the indicator circuit so I don't really see how swithing the headlights on and off several times can have had abearing on the fault. The indicators normally run on an ignition switched feed, so shouldn't work with the key out. The hazard switch (which is fairly complex) switches the indicators to a battery feed so that they'll work all the time. However, if the hazard switch was faulty it is more likely that both sides would be flashing, not just the left. It is possible that a fault with the turn/flash/dip stalk switch could cause your problem, but it would involve a short from the headlight circuit to the indicator. It might still be worth investigating (for starters try disconnecting the switch multiplug to see what happens), or substitute with a known good switch. Failing that it sounds like a short (crushed wires perhaps) in a harness in the dash - so inspect for physical damage. |

Thanks for the feedback - I agree that it does sound like a short of some kind between the headlight and indicator circuit.
Anyway, I've called the dealers and am arranging for it to be collected so that they can review what damage they caused. |

My money would be on a faulty Hazard Switch ... we see all sorts of indicator problems at work that defy explanation .... replace Hazard switch and bingo !

Well the dealer's bodyshop who were sorting out the problems they caused when they repaired the windscreen corrosion have got back to me.
They've apparently fixed the dash and heater control problems that they created, but have said that the indicator problem is caused by a faulty loom that is subject to a recall, and are delivering the vehicle back to me so that I can take this up with Land Rover. (And here was me thinking that they were all part of the same company.) So I'm left with a vehicle in which the right turn indicator doesn't always work. Anyway, my question is this - does anyone know of a recall for faulty loom in a MY09 110? Mike |

For those who might be interested how this was solved, this was a sporadic problem (wouldn't happen for months at a time and then would occur three times a day) which now appears to have been due to wires chafing together under the right hand wing.
The left hand wiring is well protected but the right hand ones were pretty exposed, hence the issue. Wiring replaced and all seems fine now. |

It could be earthing hazard switch related if it has caused multiple issues with other equipment.

It looks pretty certain it was the wiring under the wing - the RH wiring was clearly worn/exposed/melted and I could get the RH indicators off again by pushing the RH loom under the bonnet slightly. Cheers Mike |

BINGO!
I've had my indicator fuse blowing randomly since Christmas Day my 2009 110 Utility; also lost the wipers but that's another story. The intermittent fault became a permanent fault during a 350 mile journey in high winds and driving rain yesterday at which point the broken indicators became shorted to the headlights for half an hour which then blew the headlight fuse as darkness decended. Wipers also started wiping off the windscreen at both ends but thankfully continued to work; overhaul is next on the list as park switch hasn't sorted it. Anyway, a bit of time searching this on the bog this morning brought this thread up and I found the problem straight away where the loom comes off a connector zip tied to the bulkhead and then drops down the wing near the abs servo where it had rubbed through into a big melted mess.
