I would say learn to live with it! Or don't pay and see what the court system does .... at least in Italy you can appeal for the next 90 years!
On a side note A friend of mine was stopped in Zimbabwe for speeding and the traffic officer said that would be US$100 fine payable now (since he was in an SA registered vehicle)! So he said "i don't have that much" - Traffic officer "how much do you have in your wallet?" he opened it and had about US$35......Traffic officer quicker than a fly removed the cash and calmly said " you can go but next time you come to Zimbabwe bring more cash!"    |

Didn't say I wasn't going to pay just to see if any body had any experience challenging autostrada and had success, have just e mailed explaining the situation maybe they will reply but I think probably not, within the 15 days I have to pay

You could try just ignoring it?
Watched a program the other night where a copper stopped a foreign bike speeding, not a lot of point giving him a fine said the copper, he be back home in a week and that's that. |

Heh heh Unfortunately the barrier was up and the truck behind wasn't going anywhere, I have driven over here many times but because of the way the roundabout/ entry into the toll gates are set up I was forced by traffic in them before I had chance to react and manoeuvre. Seems to be a good little earner for autostrade in my eyes, just read if you stop or get out of your car after the booths it is a traffic offence and you will be fined so even if I had managed to pull over I would have been busted anyway  Last edited by Rudski on 23rd Sep 2015 5:35pm. I think the problems start when they try and get the fines from the hire car company, they in turn put them onto me, then when I need to come back it's outstanding and I will struggle to rent a car, not sure though. |

As with my company car if the hire company deal with it you may find an additional administration fee is levied!, in my case it's an additional £15. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Have just spoken to the woman who owns this fantastic little getaway and has told me to go to what's called a blu something, can't remember the full name on the ticket but I have to report to them and give them the heads up, supposedly it's a common occurrence at the entry points but obviously tourists aren't as aware and quick enough to be able to manoeuvre in time, watch this space, calling in at this place in the morning on the way back to the airport so hopefully will be sorted, I will post as soon as I know the outcome or when I get home, hopefully anybody else on here will have a heads up
Or just don't get forced into the wrong lane

Bitter sweet day
The place we needed to call in at to plead our innocence for using the incorrect toll entry was closed on the way to the airport this morning 
E mailed the customer service centre with all the details and entry time, they have kindly waivered the full toll charge
Now I just need to battle with the hire car place at the airport who have insited that I have damaged the underside of the front spoiler couldn't argue after being stuck in traffic on the way to the airport I was cutting it really fine for my flight but I did say I wouldn't accept that I caused the scratches, just watching my bank account to see if they try and take any cash  |

Whenever I rent a car I first go over it in great detail. The slightest minimal damage gets noted down and acknowledged on the car documents by the rental company prior to driving off. Don't accept if they try to minimize as not worth noting. No discussion then. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Another tip that i got from a guy who rented out Ferraris is to video the car before you take it over from the hirer could also take still photos.
Did they hand over the car to you or did you have to just find it in the numbered space in the airport car park? If the latter then they cant really prove it was you as it could have happened in the car park. |

^^ Of course they will assume it is you. When picking up the car in the car park, you always get a document to allow you to inspect the car, and you have to go back to the office if you have remarks, and make them note them down and mark the location of the damage on the car figure which is on such car. At least that is the procedure with first class hire companies like Avis, Hertz, Europcar, etc. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Yes went around with the guy who had a card measuring anything less than 5cm not worth marking down, I always go around the car with them, I had noticed a black mark on the very bottom edge of the front valance and it didn't look to be over 5cm, when returning it was a different guy he seemed to hone straight in and ran his Hand underneath the bottom edge saying it was over. Now I have to admit I didn't get down as far as that as it's almost underneath the car Locauto is the hire company they are in bed with enterprise so thought ok! I have just been reading reviews and have realised, to late now of course but they seem to have a shocking record for this.
Next time I will do my homework, I've heard they take the money from your deposit up to 2 months afterwards.
Could be a very time consuming expensive lesson learned |
