True Ray, they do look good. And I can certainly see why people wanted your car - it looks fab! Thumbs Up

Quick question - when you did drill the wings did you put a block or anything behind or just go carefully?

Actually fitting might be a bit of a project as ideally I'd like to re-spray the headlight surrounds and grill too (I'm thinking gloss black). And then of course I'd also like to run in wiring for some spots or a light bar...
Only don't tell the wife that bit as I've promised this is the last Defender-spending for a while Rolling with laughter

I painted my headlight surrounds and grill a while ago and had fitted spotlights on my old a bar so all was in place on mine before I got the rubber a bar. As for drilling the wings, I just wrapped a good few layers of insulation tape around the drill bit about 10 mm up so when I went through the wing it couldn't go through any further and the tape doesn't damage the paint Thumbs Up I also put plastic washers at the back of the bolts in the wing with nyloc nuts instead of fitting rivnuts in the wing so it's easier to remove, and put insulation tape on the shank of the bolts which were all stainless to stop any dissimilar metal corrosion. Ray

Lucky the ones who 'wanted' it, didn't ask 'nicely' with a gun.....!! Oh, that'd be Shepard's Bush Whistle

Have to say I love them too. Do they still make them?

They don't make the a bars with light surrounds anymore Big Cry I was looking for about 2 or 3 years then 3 came up on eBay in two weeks in various states so I bought a couple and made one good one out of them Mr. Green Ray

My front bar has now been on its 4/5 Defender,, Never needed to "drill" the wings to fix the headlamp bars,, Decent double side tape works well Very Happy

I tried double sided tape as suggested by tj101 including big names like 3m but I just couldn't get the light surrounds to stay stuck to the tape. The tape stuck to the wing and was a right pain to get off but with each different tape I tried after a week the light surround would start to come away Big Cry in the end I bit the bullet and drilled the wings. Ray

That's not a bad idea. Just got to weigh up the pros and cons - i.e. double sided tape great because no holes, but needs removing and refitting if you every have to e.g. change a bulb (not an issue on yours with those headlights! Thumbs Up ) versus bolted on - great for taking on and off but... holes in the car! Shocked

Picked up the nudge bar today. There are a couple of bits missing from the fitting kit (I knew about that before I bought it so no problems there) so I'll have to do a bit of ferreting around before I get it on my car. The important bits like the bumper brackets and top brackets are all good, so it's certainly not worth getting a whole new fitting kit. I'll just have to work out the right bolt sizes and threads etc. The only slightly more problematic item is the "caps" that cover the bolt holes in the light surround pieces - but I'm sure I'll be able to find some way around that.

I haven't measured it up properly yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to relocate my DRLs about 15-20mm further outboard too Big Cry

Because sometimes, you just have to stop at the side of the road and take a photo of your Defender...

This is about 2 minute's drive from my house but don't worry, we have tarmac roads in New Zealand too!

Decided I couldn't wait to fit my A-bar 2nd-hand bargain. The weather is rainy and cold at the moment so the re-spraying of the grills and headlight surrounds can wait. And I still haven't settled on the lights / light bar that (a) I like and (b) I can afford! Rolling Eyes

Spent ages measuring and checking e.g. the distance from the mudguard to the bar, before realising that the natural "hand-built" quality of the car meant that the bar looked wonky when the measurements were exactly the same on both sides. In the end I relied on the old eye-ometer to make it look right! Thumbs Up

Celebrated by taking the dog for a walk at a local beach in the rain Confused Just had to take another photo when I got back to the car...

Thanks! No I used the nut and bolt method you suggested in the end - thanks for the tip. And the one about the plastic "rivets" holding the arches on - that's certainly easier than taking the headlights on and off. (Although I did lose one of the plastic centre pieces which was a bit stiffer than the others and has now pinged somewhere into the unreachable recesses of the wing! Rolling Eyes )
