New member - Galway Green Puma
Hi chaps,

New owner of a Defender here, well it's a joint venture between myself and my Dad. My Dad having had a few Landys when I was young, I've always liked them so thought why not? It will be used for some light green lane stuff and also hauling me and my mountain bike to various trails around the UK.

It (seems) a pretty straight car, at least mechanically, and has had one owner since new - this being an estate so it has been a working vehicle so has the marks to reflect that. It's prime use seemingly a hunting/lamping so has a fairly big spotter on the roof, slightly off centre, a CB radio aerial and a large LED rear light. Other than that the car is standard. Only options I can see on it are the front skid plate and the rear cross member step.

In regards to plans we just, firstly, want to tidy it up and get the underside sealed and protected for the upcoming winter. Also want to get shut of the spotter and CB aerial. Taking it over to a bodyshop specialist this weekend to get an opinion on it - also will hopefully get a few of the dents sorted out at the same time. The scratches I'm going to try get the majority out with a machine polisher - though this is a Landy and will not be a garage queen I'd like to bring it up to a decent standard.

Then we'd like to add a few little touches, KBX grille/vents in gloss black, black chequer sills and perhaps get the boosts done black and space them out a touch - I'd welcome advice on what does/doesnt look good in regards to this.

So yeah, here are a few pictures. I'd also like an ID on the colour, not got the log book yet but been told it's Epsom Green, does this look correct? Also looking at the engine bay last night a cap seems to be missing, well it doesn't look right to me anyway.

Edit - It is Galway Green, thanks to Bob below.

What year is it ?

Up to early 2009 then it probably is Epsom Green but from that date they changed to Galway Green which is very similar.

Have a look for the ID plate under the bonnet and hopefully it will have a paint code on it which we can identify the colour from.

Log book will probably just say green so that may not help.

Great, that's good that there is nothing missing!

It's a 2010. Will have a look for the code after work, thanks!

That will be Galway, paint code 821 (or HAC).

Epsom is 961 (or HAF).

Yep, turns out it is Galway Green!
Took it out for a quick spin after work last night and gave it a clean, the colour comes up really well.
Next step get that lamp off the roof!

Having now seen the photos it's a damn shame the lamp was put there. IMHO I would go down the professional route for repair not the 'Bodgit 'n' Scarper' one. Nice truck and no offence meant with the 'Rat' reference in the other thread. A Rat it is not!

Bow down Thumbs Up

Let us know how you go with the repair! Thumbs Up

With regards to the 'missing cap' as stated nothing is amiss. See my post p1 of this thread the orifice is a Pot Noodle Warmer:

Dependent on reliability and whether yours was built on a Friday this too is also a distinct possibility......

I reckon that "spotting" lamp is a very "individual" accessory, & forms part of the character/history of your Defender.
However, I can understand that you mightn't want it there all of the time, so can't you just remove the lamp itself, & leave the fixing bracket & interior fitting in place?...Wouldn't be particularly intrusive.
Pickles.
