2.2 common issues and life expectancy
When buying a 2.2 should I be concerned if the clutch, transmission and oil pump issues have never occurred or replaced under warranty?

From my research the clutch and transmission occur within the first 50k miles.

Are these guaranteed to happen or is it just pot luck?

If buying without warranty should I be concerned and budget for when they occur?

Thanks

I'm sure if it happened on every car they'd have been a call back to sort it out or some sort of public outrage. The clutch is a part with a life expentancy anyway so you ought to budget to change it at some point, when that point is will depend on what you're doing with the car and your left foot. But then you ought to budget for servicing, changing the tyres and all the other things we have to pay out for.

I wouldn't worry about the things you listed, it's all down to luck and circumstance. Budget in the usual way and get on with it. Very Happy

I have a 2.4 and the only things that have gone wrong with it are caused by me driving into things and breaking them. It does have days where it makes weird noises and seems to behave differently but I ignore it and it goes away.

I just took my 2012 2.2 in for the oil pump recall.

It has been out of warranty since December last year.

Look yours up on TOPIx and ask a few dealers to attend to the outstanding recalls.

My dealer did not even try argue.

Recalls are warranted for 10 years so they can't argue luckily.

Mine is also due the recall and due a service and seems as they drain and replace oil I'm hoping for a discount but we will see. After all it is Land Rover.

Glad you got it sorted without issues Smile

“clutch and transmission occur within the first 50k miles… should I be concerned if the clutch, transmission and oil pump issues have never occurred or replaced under warranty?”

You’ve answered your own question. If there were any fault due to defective parts or their assembly, it would have become apparent and/or fixed within three years and 50k. Anything from now on in is due to normal wear and tear; what and how soon will depend on how you wear and tear your truck.

Thank you - she won't be used hard with only about 4k a year tops and off road will be occasional trips across a field and the odd farm track so won't be worked hard at all.

I will keep her perfect and have an amounted aside ready for the inevitable issue to arise Smile

Thank you and the journey begins - finally!

If you have your recall done at the same time as a service, then you should not have to pay for any oil or filters, as both are included in the recall.

Yes that's what I thought but none are deduction it off...

Only one place has but they was so expensive it's down to the same standard price as all the others.

That's stratestone, beadles, Essex auto group and lookers.

I got my oil pump changed under the recall at Farnell's in Nelson. Two weeks later I asked for some discount on the three year A service pointing out it would be crazy to change the oil and filter after 100 miles. They discounted the service from £460 to £200. I took the approach with them that I would service it myself at £460 unless they could offer a reduction, as the warranty was about to expire.
I would say keep trying.

Thanks - now I know it's possible and £200 I think is reasonable (at LR prices) but no one budging at the moment so we will see
