Very generous offer Slim, Thank you
I will take it apart slowly and then have a look and see what we find. In the mean time if a good one comes available I will pounce on it Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Haha, I'd love an evening project once the immediate issues are solved Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Thanks Slim
I am confident and competent to do it, its just gee'ing myself up for it. Especially now the evenings are cold and dark. First challenge is shoving it up the drive so I can work on it close to the workshop rather than half way down the drive blocking everything in. I wouldn't be too worried about leaving the head off for a few days, when I did my SIII the head was off for probably close on a month while I did the work to the head, I just gave the exposed parts a spray with WD40 and left an oily cloth over the block to keep any bits out. All went together well and no problems.

Yep the head gasket is gone - the replacement will look different so don't worry. I had the same on my 200TDi - not a complicated replacement....I did mine without any problem I just followed the instructions in the RAVE manual to the letter. I suggest you replace the head bolts at the same time and follow the torque sequence with the angle guage carefully.
