I have a box I have made myself, similar to the barebox (http://barebox.co.uk/boxes.html) which sits on top of the wheelbox in the rear of the 90. It is currently held in place with a couple of bungee cords which you can probably imagine is a bit of a nightmare off road.
Does anyone have any bright ideas for lashing the boxes down but also making them quickly removable. I don't want anything sticking up out of the floor or wheelbox when they have been removed ideally. My current idea is to use a hook toggle latch, as pictured, either side of the box to hook into the tub capping rail and hold the box in place. The only issue with that is the box won't be necessarily lashed "down" which may prove to be an issue. These types of latches also seem to be quite difficult to source from a quick ebay search. Does anybody else have any bright ideas? Tom @tditomprice 100” Defender Hybrid 2010 Alaska White 90 HT |

I was also thinking Dzus fasteners. You can just pop rivet on the fixed part to the underside of the wheelbox.
Or the simpler option a few rivnuts and some wingbolts. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Sorry to hijack the thread, but where is a good place to buy just two Dzus fasteners?
I need a couple to secure the lid on the storage box in my 90, everywhere I have looked has been extortionate!! Cheers G My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

Might sound silly but have you tried the main dealer - there used on the front hold down strip for the canopy on a double cab. They might either be eye wateringly expensive or cheap.

I know you want flat but you could look at something like this: Click image to enlarge fit these feet to your box: Click image to enlarge and then your box would slide in and lock like this: Click image to enlarge https://www.expeditionexchange.com/slidelock/ Used this system to mount a large box on a flat deck myself: |

Genuine parts are extorsionate I am afraid:
AFU2503 ~9ea & AFU2504 ~4 Quite cheap but need the tool/ a 2p piece to release/fasten: http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/index.php?cPa...nmnlne2qo4 Or more expensive (watch postage from them) but no tools required to remove: http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/dzus...-fasteners Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Do you think this would be suitable for fixing a Lintran Dog Crate to the top of an MSS Longline Drawer... I am having the standard lashing eyes re-fitted somewhere, as the MSS will be level with the top of the wheel box covers each side but this looks to be a quicker/easier method of fixing... Rog... I've got cargo tracking at the bottom of the wheel arches, very adaptable for various uses:

Assume this can also be fitted on top of the boxes, or an MSS drawer as well Mark...

Yeah it can be bolted to any flat/solid surface, I put it as low as possible to tie down loads in the rear of the 90. It's bolted through the wheel boxes- the nuts are in the wheel arches (you need extremely long arms to fit on your own!) Mark S

Dzus fasteners would be smart but I Ideally want to be able to remove the box without having to dig to the bottom of the box first.
I stumbled on a thread which I think has been linked to before on the forum (Linky I'm only a third of the way through the thread but I've already had my mind blown at some of the storage solutions those guys have come up with. I noticed a lot of them are using turnbuckles which would be good for my situation too I think. Another advantage is that they are cheap as chips. I'm going to grab a couple and see if I can make them work. Tom @tditomprice 100” Defender Hybrid 2010 Alaska White 90 HT |

I'm struggling to find either my spec sheet for it or one online. However, taking the larger version, then the fridge for it weighs 52.9lbs and it's capacity is given as 60 x 12 fl oz cans, which I make to be 20.4kg. Adding the two together I make it 44.5kg total. Maybe you could load it with heavier items and maybe there's a factor of safety in there somewhere but I'm thinking your crate may weigh more than this, and that's before you add the dog? You could also fix your crate to two bases? But that might start to get expensive. I'd go the cargo track route and be inventive with the fixings - google Unwin and look on EBay. There's loads of fittings taken off old buses and coaches. The fixed clamps used to secure wheelchairs are excellent (better than the webbing strap ones): Click image to enlarge http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/unwin-wheelchair...2072527348 |
