My Monday Morning commute from Derby to Bournemouth..
About the only good thing about the 200 mile journey is spotting all the lovely new Defenders around Gaydon on the M40.. always see a few of these, but unfortunately getting fewer and fewer My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Very much a hybrid, TD5 Chassis, tub & bulkhead with a 200TDI and LT77 GB Painted in Stornoway Grey 2 years off the road, but getting close to completion now |

Interesting how the two. Presumably Discoveries are wrapped and the defenders are left open to the elements!
There are going to be some very happy new owners very soon ! |

I think they are standard covers, as I see them on most of the transporters, Probably to stop the flies marking the bodywork which is why it's on both of the front vehicles?
I wish I was one of those happy new owners.. I stuck with rebuilding mine from scratch and she is slowly getting there.. ... And it will be better built and almost certainly more reliable.
(Don't forget to beef up the security as part of the buld, though. It woudl be heartbreaking to lose it after all the time and care spent). |

I'm yet to see a transporter drop off vehicles to us with covers on them
We had an SVR delivered last week and that wasn't covered either!! I wonder what is under those?? G My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

^^ I have seen a few times how top of the line Discos and FFRR arrive on a transporter at our dealer here. They invariably have white shrinkwrap foil covering sensitive parts of the truck, but never the entire truck like in this picture. Looks like they have something to hide indeed.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Looks to me like a FFRR, when we visited the factory on the Defender tour there was a Car Park full of these in their wraps. I would imagine Autobio colours and expensive to repair so covered or as mentioned before the front two cars maybe? Although never seen a defender with these added no matter where on the transporter!

maybe the dealers can specify/ pay more to have them delivered with covers? to save them cleaning them as much before the customer collects?
Ive seen the wrapped ones before, but these were proper covers, you could see the straps with hooks underneath and a flap for the fuel filler etc.. Sorry for the thread resurrection, but the vehicle protection applied depends on the destination market and / or shipping type. If we have something to hide, it won't be on an open transporter!
Some ships are RORO, some are containerised. Whole vehicle covers (which are single use) tend to be for deep sea vessels where the vehicle will be exposed to elements. Transporters won't always have a load for one market on, hence the mixed condition. Most markets get protection around door handles to prevent damage during transport, and some markets will also get white wrap to cover horizontal surfaces to protect from airborne dirt. Shipping ports and storage compounds tend to be pretty dusty places! 2020 110 D200 Base - Pangea with satin paint protection 2015 90 XS Station Wagon (sold) 2010 110 XS Station Wagon (stolen) |

That makes sense. I've seen those all enveloping white covers on new New Zealand vehicles.
