The image they show doesn't clearly show the frame bracing,as well, it's a NAS bumper on the back of a NAS 90, most certainly the original set up, not one of their bumpers. 90's and 110's are different on how they attach to the frame. NAS bumpers are impossible to find over here. I have seen a few that have come from the UK, but none with the receiver and proper bracing to the frame as on the original NAS bumper. |

Thanks for the links, if you go to the fitting instructions for the Masai, they also have braces back to the frame, but they don't look as neat as the 4Wheeln version. 2015 90 XS SW Bowler

The original manufacturer of the NAS step for Land Rover are Breed Group. I do not know if they supply direct to the public. If they do not and you want an original one let me know and I will see what we can do. The NAS step from a LR dealer is likely to be an arm and a leg type price.
A word of caution IF you intend or even might tow you will need some bracing bars. If no bracing bars are mentioned in an advert it would be wise to assume they are NOT included. Not all aftermarket NAS steps are compatible with items such as the Nakatanenga wheel carrier. Safari Equip do a NAS step with bracing straps for about £399 including VAT plus carriage. Brendan |

The proper bracing should be part of the bumper frame, not a bolt on piece. (see the images below for the 110) Although the bumper portion behind the crossmember is the same on the 90 or 110, what is underneath and bolting to the frame are very different. Looks like they are trying to make 1 bumper with 2 different bolt on braces.

Thanks Brendan, do you know if the SE one has the 2" square Receiver tube, there isn't a pic on their site?

I believe it has the 2" receiver fitted but can not swear to it. Will try and check it out next week and see if I can get some photographs for you.
I know the genuine NAS step works with the Nakatanenga wheel carrier but not all aftermarket "NAS' steps are an exact copy of the OEM one. Brendan |

Not sure if I am understanding you but the genuine LR rear step bumpers come with bolt on bracing, and it's different for the 110 when compared to the 90. |

The original genuine Nas 2" receiver step came with welded on bracing instead of the bolt on bars that they come with now. Like the pic above and this that I found a couple of months ago.

That's the one Ray...I'm still looking for that exact one. That is the actual bumper the came on the NAS 110, with all the welded bracing. The NAS 90, was different (photo below) with it's shorter back end, the welded braces attached to the outside of the frame, the 110 is to the inside.
All the bumpers I have been able to fine so far in the UK that are labelled as "NAS" have bolt on braces (see the Masai version below) none so far have the correct welded bracing. There are even some that have no bracing at all and only bolt to the crossmember (scary). I'm waiting to hear back from 4wheelin.co.uk on exactly what his format is. He claims that it's a "slightly different design". Someone over there is making the correct NAS version like Ray has, if I can find them, I'll probably be looking to buy 4-6 of them. If anyone knows where to source these, please let me know.

A further observation, all the recent ones including the current 'official' one in the Defender brochure have two central longitudinal bolts into the cross member. The pics posted by CDN38 appear to not have these bolts but have two vertical bolts instead.
I reckon the cross members are different on Puma vs mid 90's 300tdi/NAS V8 chassis, probably due to fuel tank changing. Therefore even if original NAS step could be located it might not fit a Puma chassis? This is too hard......  2015 90 XS SW Bowler

Looks like the description "NAS Step bumper" is really referring to a couple different versions.
The original tube style step bumper was manufactured specifically for the 93 NAS 110's, and 94-97 NAS 90's. They had a class 3 - 2" recover hitch, and had all the under frame bracing welded on the underside an integral part of the bumper, that bolted directly to the chassis. This was most likely to conform to specific North American towing specifications. LR also produces a version for the UK market that has the bolt on reinforcing bars (separate pieces) attaching the bumper to the chassis. All the other manufacturers are copying it calling it the NAS bumper. Only similarity is the external tube step portion, the attachment to the chassis is definitely not as robust, not the same as the original NAS spec. They manufactured 525 of the NAS 110's and probably made more bumpers than vehicles, the overage was most likely sold off in the UK. That 110 bumper will fit ROW 110's up to at least 2006. Not sure if it will fit the Puma chassis though. The 90 version should be the same, fitting up to at least 2006. That more robust bumper is what I am after.... they are out there somewhere.... |
