Getting toasty!
Hi all

Just recently did the first lot of long distance driving since buying my 2009 110. Living on an island I don't get to do this too often but after a couple of hours on the highway it was obvious that the transmission tunnel was getting rather warm. To the point where our legs and bums were getting uncomfortably warm and had to run the air-con to stay comfortable. I know there is limited insulation on the defender in this area but is this to be expected or should I investigate. Its not designed as a long distance cruiser I know but I am planning further long road trips in the future.

Any opinions welcome

Cheers 2009 Puma 110 SW

Its irritating as its a radiator in the summer and nice cool and drafty in the winter.haha, they all do it. Many people have reported a decat reduces the heat significantly but a decat doesn't do torque any good.

I have seen some awesome stick on heat shield pads that I though about giving a try, but I'm a busy man and forget such ideas easily.

The floor for the second row seats gets mega hot some days. I removed the centre silencer on mine and it made a lot of difference to the temperature of the floor in the back. This may bring some of your heat down. Its a nice easy cheap mod. Also made the exhaust sound a smidge nicer

Ok thanks for the info.
I can live with it as I'm under no illusion as to what type of car I own and I love it. But having the peace of mind that its generally normal I can drive in confidence. Thank god for the air-con! 2009 Puma 110 SW
