2.4 engine squeal with revs

Hi all, this has happened in the past and went away, but now its back thought I'd look into it a bit.

from 2250rpm under light or heavy load I develop uniform squeal or squeak up to about 3000rpm. It does sound like a turbo whistle but doesn't change pitch or volume with accelerator position.

car is re-maped and drives as normal, no loss of power, just the odd noise.

any ideas. My Defender and travels

Inspect the gasket from the manifold to the turbo. Most likely the cause. Recently had the same fault new gasket solved it.

Other possibility is fan belt tensioner weakened.

New gasket genuine part is only 10er ish I think. Warm up the exhaust before you undo the bolts. Will reduce the risk of shearing a stud

Check also that the nuts fasteners holding the exhaust manifold to the head haven't worked loose. The front branch on my exhaust manifold needs tightening about once each year.

any possibility of a part number for the gasket, only if it's easy.

I wouldn't be able to get a part number untill I'm home tonight after work. I'm sure it'll be in the invoice.

But check them bolts first as that's the free fix option if it is them. A fault I ahd forgotten to mention sorry bud.

Changing the gasket is easy if you know how to use a spanner

The gasket between the manifold and turbo is LR007168.

As theorangebandit says it's not hard to change but access is typically not great, and you'll need (IIRC) to remove the turbo heatshield and the brace from the turbo to the manifold, and possibly the brace from the cat to the block in order to get enough movement on the turbo to get the gasket in.

Just had this exact issue today.

Tightened the bolts on the on the turbo - exhaust manifold. Sorted.

Well there was not much in it, and one would hardly call them loose, buy a little nip up and no more whistle. Thanks a lot lads. Reckon a day off work for delivery and pick up, plus the pandoras box of dealer fix possibilities I hate to think, you guys save me a little fortune.

So the manifold bolts had loosened a little then. Good to hear a nice easy fix. Hopefully you'll tackle more faults in the future. Land rover prices are only going up 👆
