IID BT @ £365 - Running on DISCO3
If anyone is interested, there's a group buy being run by Disco_Mikey for an IID BT @ £365 over on DISCO3. This is the second round, the first offer being taken up by over 30 people! Though it's only a small saving, this is the best that can be done and you won't find it cheaper. Wink

For those that don't know, the IID is an excellent diagnostic tool, with great service from GAP Diagnostic. It's reliable, safe and user friendly. The Defender (2007-on) is a more recent addition and, while coverage may currently be a bit more limited, it is being constantly developed. Smile

A bit more info, for anyone sitting on the fence Wink

You can get details of coverage here: http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool.html

For the BT model, the basic functions (fault codes, live data, component control and service routines) are unlocked and available for all covered vehicles. Enhanced functions (CCF editing and ECU flashing, and calibrations like the suspension, transfer box and SAS) are VIN locked. You can buy additional licences (for any covered model) for £60.

The device works best via bluetooth using an app (free - Android and Apple), allowing graphing of live values etc., but can also function on it's own using the instrument cluster to write on like the IID "classic". (NB: Not all Android devices are compatible, so best to check first.)

Having worked my way through various diagnostic tools over the years (IDS/SDD, Autologic, Faultmate, Haweye, Nanocom etc), the IID Tool beats them all hands down, for ease of use, accessibility, info provided, and above all else, price...

The IID Bluetooth unit is exactly the same as the IIDPro which I use on a daily basis, but is VIN-locked, as explained in the above. The only difference is the Pro version is VIN-Free, and the price.

The IID will perform functions that even JLR's own SDD diagnostic system cannot do, such as Sat Nav on the Move (allows you to enter destination while driving)
It allows FULL Car Configuration File (CCF) editing and allows you to unlock "hidden" features within the car
It allows full software updates (not all models are currently covered, but they are in the pipeline), some of which as required for CCF editing and features to work, such as 3 Flash Indicators.
It allows EAS calibration, either individual corners, front only, rear only, or all 4 corners.

And if it all goes wrong with a calibration, or CCF editing, there is a Restore function, to put it back to standard Thumbs Up

There has been much thought and care put into each, and every process the IID Tool can perform.
They even go as far as forcing failed software updates, and have recovery processes already in place. Most of which goes on in the background automatically, so the end user doesn't have to do anything

I have taken some screenshots with my own Disco 3. There will be differences between the models, and some features available on some that are not there on others.

Height Calibration

Module/Sensor/Height calibrations

Service/Test Menu, offering Key Programming, Service Interval Reset, Aux Heater prime and Operation Check, EPB Unjam function, Lift Pump Security Reset, Suspension valve testing, and Transmission Adaptive Reset

It offers Live Values, both in digital, and graph form
The graphs are invaluable for pinpointing intermittent faults, as you can see the specific rise/fall in readings, instead of the digital values

It offers "Safe" CCF Editing

-For safety reasons, access to the full CCF list is available upon request only. However, the tested settings are available to all and these cover 99 % of all requirements.

It also offers "Advanced" editing. For 99% of owners, this option will go unused, but it can be made available for anything you want to retro-fit, or enable. This is where the CCF Restore function is invaluable Bow down

-Re-flash wise, the Pro is capable of housing all supported files while the BT does require either updating the tool to a special firmware for the Nav On Move or using the PC based interface for updating the Bluetooth in any other languages then UK English.

For more details on which re-flash are available and the fast lane service, please have a look at the user manual: http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/support/documents.html

ECU Flash screen. All of these Firmware options are free to use. There is a small charge for Firmware not listed in this menu, and is supplied direct from GAP.

The ECU Info tab allows you to see modules which are fitted to the car and what firmware is currently installed. Invaluable if you are having module communication issues

The Save/Restore tab allows you to save your specified height requirements, and change to them in a matter of seconds, as well as the CCF Restore, just in case Wink

Considering a main dealer will generally charge a minimum of £100 for a diagnostic plug in, the IIDTool offers excellent value for money, and while the saving is not huge, its better than nothing Thumbs Up

Having now signed up over on Disco3, I'm wondering how this differs from the BAS plug in doodad. They look very similar, BAS will do remaps via the IID tool but buying direct from BAS is cheaper.

The BAS2 tool only covers engine and related functions and no other modules on the car and is sold primarally as a tuning tool with a remap

IIDTool covers the full car and all its modules. and tuning is sold seperatly here should people want to add it to the IIDTool.

The BAS tool doesn't offer the full diagnostic coverage that the IID does. For the Defender, I'm not sure exactly what the differences are, what with the Defender being a somewhat more simple vehicle compared with other LRs. ABS is one thing, I believe. The IID does also offer the standard functions (i.e. diagnostic stuff, rather than ECU flashing and calibrations) for all covered vehicles. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

For the Defender the engine functions on both tools are identical.

The IIDTool however does support the ABS live data as an extra currently and at some point we think more will also come onto it like the 10AS alarm and key/plip programming etc etc.

Below are the live value options in the IIDTool for the ABS, some puma engine live values can be seen here also. The 2.4 does differ slightly to the 2.2 for value options.

so the IID is a bit more universal and can do a little more on the Defender, but a slightlier pricier option if all you wanted is a remap. So IID probably best for me then. Thanks Smile

I take it they are related then?
