out of the two AT choices I'd go for BFG, but if I could widen my choice personally I would go with neither and go for Cooper STT

STT is a mud terrain.......thought the question was "which tyres" and both choices were all terrain.

The "Which tyre should I get" debate is mildly amusing. Each and every one of us have our own ideas on how our motors look but with many of us the financial constraints dictate what we can actually get. Personally I'm a fan of BF Goodrich, when I've been able to shoe my motor they have given me trouble free motoring and wear extremely well. I've been down the el-cheapo route, a set of Insa Turbo Dakars kept me going for 2 years, noisy but capable. I am trying hard to get the funds together for more BFG km2's and I'm holding out for those as a few friends have got Cooper STT's fitted and they've had punctures and split side walls whilst doing the same lanes that I've been on, often on the same trips. They do look a very capable tyre but they, well to me anyway, just seem to be not quite as good as the BFG.
I'm sure that someone else can come along and put a totally opposite opinion but if we were all the same the world would be a very boring place. It's one of those situations where you are the one with the pen poised on the chequebook and so it will be your decision. |

Have only had tubed BFG AT pattern remoulds many years ago, so cannot comment on the 'real deal', but do recall that the tread pattern didn't clear mud that well.
Grabber AT2's were okay for the money. We're not talking about MT's, so I won't tell you that 235/85 R16 STT's were great on my 90 300tdi! Have clocked up 2k+ miles on my 235/85 R16 ST Maxx's now, and must say that I'm impressed with the all-round on/off road performance - AT's on steroids! ![]() |

Sorry to open this back up but thought would ask a questions. My 110 USW has just worn out the original Continental AT 235/85 R16's, in nearly 4 years.
I want a better AT tyre but do a lot of major road/motorway driving and don't want more noise. Recomendations please? Thanks |

What's wrong with the standard tyres, were you disappointed with them? If so, how? Or are you just after something different?

Great on the road but got stuck twice on our shoot in wet/soggy fields! Wondered if there was something better, but after Websearching today, sounds like the originals are pretty well rated all round. |

Love the look an durability of the BFG, regarding motorway road use they are ok but just not good enough, even in the dry....had to make an emergency stop from 60mph this morning, got very lucky. Don't know the Contis but the BFGs won't disappoint, although you need to drive these defensively, but that's probably also the case with the contis

Had to make a quick decision, so went for original Continentals.
Suppose the original two lasted fairly well almost 4 years 57k miles! |
