Hello all,
following on from my post a few weeks ago, I took part as one of the five Defenders used for extracting runners from the Col du Joly who had bailed out (or were deemed unfit to continue) on the Trail des Ducs de Savoie, part of the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc week. The Col was at 83kms, the total distance being 115km, Lots of up and down as well so a lot of broken bodies. Winner completed the race in a sniff under 21hrs... As mentioned in my previous post, anyone who wants to do this next year, as part of a trip to France, please let me know. I was paid 300€ for the rental of the Defender plus another 300€ for driving. Also dinner, drinks , fuel and insurance. Total 600€ to be legally allowed to drive up and down French mountainsides and if you have the time, similar expeds on the other races and in Italy as well. Get to Meet lots of interesting people as well. Long night, (shift was 1600-0800) but the weather was amazing (drove by moonlight for some fun) and it was a great evening. Same week every year, so pencil it in if you're up for it next year!! Here's a couple of videos, not the most exciting and excuse the bouncing (hadn't quite secured my phone properly) but you get the gist: Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
