Having done over 40k in my Bell tuned 110 and used it for towing etc i can say the 2.4 engine will take alot of beating.
proper tune and servicing and being driven correctly will allow swift passage towing 3 tonne. BUT! if your looking for more, and/or your budget won't go to 25k like mine then you can consider other engines i have a 200 hp 5 cylinder diesel sat in my workshop ready for my next (last!) defender. No electronics , proven mile munchers and CHEAP! Forget the 3.2.Look elsewhere. |

Probably requires custom cooling system, custom exhaust etc which won't be cheap either
Edit; like above I have a modified 2.4, big inter cooler hybrid turbo etc it's pretty pokey.. |

Personally I would sit tight on the gearbox I think and it would need testing you can fit 2.4 flywheel and then use a Mrk6 starter motor saving big money on gearbox you need a 2.4 Bec ota air filter kit
I made a reduced price for my exhaust uv done it in a workshop that isn't even a garage and it easy but you still need around 7k I managed to do it for 5k but bought a complete 11mile old engine and box complete with ecu and the good bits needed for 3k 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

Thanks for the info on this Steve.
I did see that engine but it looks like it's been dug up and it's also done over 60k, I'm going to sit back and wait for the right one to turn up. As long as I can get the right bits it'll save me in the long run! |

I will do,thank you I'm keeping an eye on salvage and eBay, hopefully I can find what I'm looking for at the right money, I think this will be the hardest part!
I'm looking forward to the Fabrication and I have been considering making a new carbon intake assembly as well, which hopefully I can start on soon. |

Hello everybody,
Sorry for my poor english, I live in Belgium . I'm just begining the realisation of a dream, put a 3.2 in my 2.4 puma defender. An ugly Ford Transit has taken place in my garage Saturday... ugly but big 5 pots heart . I've read many of defenders forums (AUS, UK,...) and have a relatively clear view of what challenge is in front of me. Thanks to Steeve's and Pete's post Just now 3 questions in my head: 1) Do you keep the auxiliaries (alternator, PS pump, A/C compressor) like on the Transit/Ranger, or like on the Defender ? 2) If A/C compressor like on the defernder, I've read the their is an issue to close the hood, and we need to lower the motor mounts. What answer have you found for that ? 3)Do you have problem with the front axle that goes on the oil pan when the axle goes up while offroading ? Even the 2.4 had a recall for a new oil pan with clearance for the front axle Thank you for reading and hope this thread will live ! Mathieu |

I saw that you have a solution to make these possible. Could you send me more details about this solution. Could be on my email: luizandre.rodrigues@gmail.com best regards, Luiz Andre. |
