These are back, but now on Halfords' own site.

50 but delivery is now 1.49. However, Click and Collect is free. And there's a FREE GIFT Mr. Green

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-aud...-bluetooth

Now, they are difficult to buy Rolling Eyes

The problem is that you have to put your car in when putting in the basket. Entering details for a Defender flags up as "store confirmation required" and you can't continue. Evil or Very Mad

What I did was:

  • From the product page, click the "Buy or Reserve" green button.
  • On the popup, enter PEUGEOT .... 206 ... 2006 into the 3 drop downs on the right and press Search underneath
  • On the next page, leave the boxes ticked and press Continue
  • Press "Buy and Reserve" green button again Rolling Eyes
  • Now go into the basket - icon at the top left with a red circle on it with "4" inside - total is currently 72.98
  • Remove the harness adapter and fascia adapter (orange links under the quantity drop downs)
  • There is an 8GB USB stick added - this shows as 4.99 in the basket but is discounted to zero cost. FREE GIFT Thumbs Up
  • Basket total should now be 50.00, so now proceed with the purchase as you want. You may wish to decline the fitting option for your "Peugeot" if collecting Whistle

For what it's worth, I have already fitted one (bought from the earlier eBay sell off) in the soft top and the audio is transformed. Even with basic Pioneer speakers, it sounds great (OK, yes, with everything flapping).

I have bought another now to put in the XS to replace the factory fit CDE-133BT. This will stop me being tempted to apply the firmware update with the risk of bricking the unit Embarassed  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I collect a brand new XS next week with the factory fit Alpine head unit. Is that different to this one? If so, how?
Thanks.

As above, the factory unit is a CDE-133BT compared to this CDE-173BT.

However the factory unit runs a special firmware which cannot be updated to support newer Bluetooth features like playback control. A firmware update is available from Alpine but cannot be used.

I've currently got both, one in each 90. The front panel layout is slightly different but there is otherwise little to pick between them, other than the above.

Alpine have a comparison chart on their website if you want the nitty gritty Wink

If you don't use Bluetooth music streaming then the factory unit will be fine for you Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hmmm will this allow streaming from an ipad over bluetooth?
I've had my heart set on a low powered bluetooth amp to use with my ipad setup and leave the stereo slot free for my CB but this could work just as well for half the price, plus the added phone handsfree functionality although I doubt you can have two bluetooth devices connected at the one time. For 50 I'm tempted myself, but not sure I'd make the most of any of the benefits. Need to upgrade my speakers too 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I had one of these and it lasted 6 months before it decided it didn't want to talk to my iphone anymore and play music. Tried different iphones and other devices and it didn't want play.
I spoke to Alpine UK who said there can't be anything wrong...I wasted hours on it and it now lives in a cupboard in the garage, waiting to go in as a replacement for when i sell one of the cars...someone else can have the grief!!!
