I have a 110HT which I don't routinely put a a ton in the back of. I've found that when I have something heavy-ish in the back, like a washing machine, the ride is much more pleasant.
Is it possible to get the improved (less judder-y) ride without having to carry a washing machine around all the time? Will it make the whole thing really wallow-y if I do? (Our 110 HiCap with a ton in the back isn't particularly great at going round corners). Are Station Wagon springs different to HT springs? Is there a list of all the different standard combinations somewhere that I haven't been able to find yet? I don't really want to spend loads of money, and ideally I'd like to stick with OEM if possible. Should I just put a few tractor weights in the back? |

I put MY14 USW springs on our double cab (Yellow/Yellow fronts and purple/brown rears). It was very harsh on the old springs as there is so little weight over the back.
USW springs seemed to be the best by consensus without going aftermarket. As 110 rear springs are larger diameter than all RRC/Disco and 90 springs there isn't much choice sadly. Anyway, the ride is much smoother now, a little more wallowy but we don't have any ARBs on ours. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

As a side note to my previous post, front yellow/yellow springs only sagged about 10mm on mine when i fitted a first four HD winch bumper and Superwinch Husky. Even before sagging though they look nose down. I measured around 1" difference between the floor and arch brows on ours.

Does your HT have helper springs on the back inside the main springs? If it does you could just take those out.

Here's a couple of links to Spring rates. Also what tyre pressure are you running on the rear? Might be too high...

See http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic13312.html - the spring rates are a couple of pages into the thread...
Assume you have RKB101111 Purple/brown springs - Note the colour coding on the springs...may be worth cleaning yours up to see what you have I have a 110 USW, and changed to CSW (white/white/green) springs (I assume the same conversion would work for you). Improved things a bit (along with Koni shock absorbers) I've been thinking of going softer still (and minus 1"), but the advice I get is that this could require other mods, such as a stronger anti-roll bar (ARB) to control the wallow/leaning on cornering with softer springs For now, I'll stick with the CSW springs. Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for, obviously not well enough
I guess you mean white/green/green MartinK? Any reason why 5 seat CSW springs are the same as a USW but different to a 7 seta CSW? I guess I'll have a crawl under this evening |
