Never seen one fitted to the engine, (though it should be possible). Plenty fitted to the PTO on the transfer box, and there's one in the for sale section currently.
The issue with that is it's not independent of ground speed, it runs at a fixed ratio to wheel speed. |

Actually far from it, you knock your transfer box into Neutral and then you have 5 forward speeds at tick over to sit at or 1 reverse speed at tick over and can sit with the handbrake on Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

OK, it's independent if you're not moving/out of gear And I guess you've got the choice of high/low. |

Isn't the issue with the puma models to do with a chassis crossmember sitting directly in the way of the transfer box take off?
I'm sure thats why the utilities companies went away from hydraulic and PTO winches. Fitting hydraulic pump elsewhere (belt driven) was seen as too much like hard work. |

There used to be a kit advertised on ebay, I think it was Flowfit who used to do one for the 2.4. They certainly have the bits.

What are most of you looking to power from it?

If you price up a hydraulic winch vs a high end Warn winch there's not that much in it. |

I was looking at a winch, but it just becomes to expansive for how much I use a winch. I have a mate with a a PTO winch off his Tdi I have been looking at for the Tdci, but it's still not clear if it will fit. And its still its still not a cheap option with various alterations needed be made. I'm not a fan of expansive electric winches, water is water not matter how much you pay. My Defender and travels
