Given you're not going to be using the Defender's full off road capability, perhaps you could add a spacer plate that drops the step, even if only by a cm or two, to allow users better purchase when using it to get in/out? If you do, let me know as I will be upgrading to the Bowler Sills (mainly for aesthetics!!) and hopefully retaining the steps, otherwise Mrs Grenadier will never get in without a bunk up....
If it helps my wife is only 5'. She can get into the 90 without the steps fitted (mine does have the Alive suspension setup which drops it by 2"). I admit though that although knocking on a bit (she doesn't read this forum ) she is as fit as a fiddle from being a Zoooooba addict!
However, she still moans like crazy about it.
Apparently the issue of poor entry is exacerbated by a hand bag!! As you grab the passenger hand rail and jump in your hand bag swings round and gets in your way. On demonstrating this point to me for the first time I very helpfully suggested that the solution was to place the hand bag in the footwell before attempting entry. As a result I can confirm that the little Scottie dog emblem on a Radley hand bag really does hurt when chucked at your head!! She's a feisty bird my Mrs

Having removed them, I believe you'd struggle to add a spacer plate - the fitment doesn't lend itself to an easy solution. As Barney12 said, someone with more engineering savvy could, no doubt, create a solution but it isn't a quick fix.

I don't think any of our clients intend to use the sills in anger, the only off-roading they are likely to do is mounting the pavement outside Fortnum and Masons
How dare you!
...they offer excellent home delivery, doncha know

Or, and I had pondered this briefly......
Try and modify one of those funky RR electric steps that slides out when you open the door.
Any excuse to mod... you're addicted
