110 utility road tax?
Just had a conversation with someone about defender road tax. I know it gets complicated with the taxation classes changing on the 2.4 tdci. My question is what is the road tax for current 110 utility . I have a 64 plate and haven't had to tax it yet but when I type my reg in on a online calculator it says it should be £505 to renew. I thought it would be the lower tax level? I'm away from home now so can't check my paper work. Anyone know what they are paying?

£505 would be for a 7seater with a full set of windows, as the previous post says, you should be paying around the £225; that is certainly what we paid with our USW.

Which online "calculator" did you use - some are known to have inaccurate data, all Defenders from MY2011 should be registered as class N1

Use https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax to check whether M1 or N1 class (yours should be N1)

N1 is currently £225

From https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/syst...140714.pdf
*M1 – as defined in EC Directive 70/156 “vehicles used for the carriage of passengers and comprising
no more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat”. CO2 emission is ascertained as part of the
Type Approval process, and is recorded on individual vehicle’s Certificate of Conformity.
*N1 – defined as “vehicles used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass not exceeding
3.5 tonnes”.

I'm sure it was 225 for future taxing. Can't remember which online calculator I used, will have been the first one that came up on google. I noticed when I was in stratstones that they had a new utility showing the dearer tax band and just thought they had got that wrong like most things!. I love double check mine when a get back of hol.

From memory, it changed mid 2011 for some unknown reason. I bought a car registered in October 2011 and expected to pay the biggie (£450 at the time, I think) but luckily 'got away' with £225. The log book says it's a commercial vehicle, the reason for which I have no idea, it's identical to the pre-mid 2011 cars which must have said it was a regular car.

AS above

Really quite easy,, all Defender from 2011MY spec, ( have seen a late November 2010 110 at the higher M1 rate so was hanging about before being reg !!) ) are the later N1 VED class,, whether it has windows (SW) or not (Utility)

So your 64 plate will be the N1 class aproc £230 odd California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

The tax question gets asked so often it might be an idea to have a sticky thread about it. Steve.

Mine is a 2011MY which was registered on 02/09/2010. I was told when I went and did the Pre pickup inspection the tax was lowered (it arrived mid August and I made them wait 2 weeks until September before it was registered). But that wouldn't have effected the tax band Russell

Russ,, If yours is one of the first 2011MY, NI Vehicle type approval class, so its £225 odd
If a 2010 MY, whenever it was registered, then is the M1 approval class, so £505 + to tax

Most manufacturers start making the next year model, around late July/August ( Landrover the first week of July)

As Steve (MOG) says, this topic must be running a close seconds to the what tyre question !!! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1
