I'd always be trying to use O.E. Pads.
But seeing as how you've changed the pads & still got a squeal, it may not be just the pads.
Could it be possible, that if you've not had the discs machined, there is a "residual/film/deposit" etc on the surface of the disc, which would cause the squeal.
Maybe you'll have to machine your discs & fit new O.E. pads?
I'm not sure what the bedding in procedure for these pads will be, because they're all different.
With our C63, we were told to do 10 quick stops from 100KPH, BUT NOT TO STOP, get 'em smokn, they said,...and I did!!....never had a squeak. But that was a performance pad, probably different to O.E Defender items.

not many places in uk now machine discs ( not for normal cars anyway ) , to machine a disc properly you need to machine both sides at once , cant be done at a machine shop with lathe as on a lathe you would cut one side then turn disc and cut other side which means a possibility of one side being out of paralle with the other ( yes it can be done but price of setting up time its cheaper to buy new discs )

I have a disc machine sitting in workshop , last time at was used was for a set of Maserati discs that were 300 quid each about 10 years ago !

OK,.....Machining of discs is commonplace in Aus.

So, pads have arrived, whipped the wheel off and old mintex pads out. Go to put the new genuine pads with shims in only to find they won't fit!!!! They're the same shape as the mintex pads and have no doubt that there right but they're too thick even without the shims, the abrasive material is about 1.5mm too thick!! Banging Head
So now I can only assume that the disc is the issue here as that's mintex as well, just a bit too thick, so looks like I'll have to change to genuine discs too now at £50 each!! Shocked

Reviving an old thread here. I think forums are at there best when the solution to problems are posted on the ends of threads. I start all my fault finding by googling and reading threads on various forums for my various cars but i couldn't find any posts where people have come back with definitive solutions to squeaky rear brakes.

Like many i've been putting up with squeaky back brakes since a local 'specialist' put some mintex pads in the back of my 2009 110 Utility. I wont go into the boring customer dissatisfaction story but will say that having tried and failed to cure the problem with copaslip on the back of the pads, then balking at the £62 for genuine LR pads i just tried chamfering off the leading edge of the pads with an angle grinder (i actually took quite a bit of material away - 45 degrees grind almost righ down to the backing). Only a short road test thus far but this appears, for now, to have cured the problem and i can now brake the car without gritting my teeth.

I'll come back after some more miles with an update.

105k on the original discs with various pads fitted no issues at all 😎 Get all new discs pads and front calipers and now I've got a front squeal when low pressure braking annoying Evil or Very Mad
