Big limestone rostyles
Wanting a retro look for my new Keswick 90. So bought these. They were new rostyles that were banded (widened) professionally. They were silver. I had them blasted and powder coated in limestone. They are 8inch wide. With 265 tyres on. Whadda you think ?[URL=]

I don't want to rain on your parade but I was under the impression banded rims were made illegal some years ago. I would love to be proved wrong. My old boss had a set on an old vitesse and it failed it's MOT because of them. However I did have a 10" set on an old V8 90 back in the day Whistle

EDIT:
just done a search and found this from 2007:

"I have a query about a specialist modification to steel car wheels over which there is much debate about legality.

The modification involves cutting off the outer part of the steel wheel rim, welding a band of additional steel to the wheel, then welding the outer rim back onto the band which has been inserted. The aim of the modification is to allow the wheel to accept a much wider tyre for increased grip. The welding is usually carried out by qualified welders.

Can you confirm whether there is anything within the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations, or any other legislation, which prohibits the use of wheels which have been modified in this way?

They have now responded as follows:

Dear Mr ******

There are no specific regulations in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, as amended (C&U) relating to the type of work you propose.
Regulation 100 of C&U does require that all parts fitted to a vehicle are not likely to cause a danger to the user of the vehicle or other road users.
Additionally, you will need to ensure that the wheels do not protrude from the wheel arches, or that modifications are made to the bodywork of the vehicle to ensure that the wheels do not protrude.

Yours sincerely

DfT - Transport Technology and Standards

My reading of the above is that banded wheels which are properly welded are legal. Ones with crap welding aren't."

So if that still applies ROCK ON I love the look of those limestones!

i bought them done - previous owner bought them brand new, I think he used www.bandedsteelwheels.co.uk

£60 a wheel to have them done pus shipping

they were silver, so I had them powdered limestone

Im gagging to show them fitted, but waiting for sept for my 90

I had seen the same thin from VOSA regarding banded steels legality on retro rides

and yes, they are heavy, think I will need a swing away carrier

and no, they dont work out cheap - prob buy a set of sawtooths for what they have cost me, but nothing else gives the retro image Im going for
