Get yourself one if these: 27mm Socket from Halfords. It has a plastic outer edge so you don't mark the wheels when tightening the nuts and is a bit longer to help you get your torque wrench on without needing an extension.
You may also have problems getting them balanced due to the large hole in the middle of the wheels so ask your tyre supplier before you buy because it's a right PITA lugging wheels around to tyre fitters tying to find someone to balance them. Other than the huge weight of them and lifting them onto the hub, they're superb. As was said to Indy "You chose wisely". ![]() |

Great choice and really good advice from AndyS on the The Laser Alloy Car Wheel Nut Socket 27mm.
I had my tyres (265/75R/16 Cooper STT) fitted locally, the fitter had never fitted and balanced tyres to such heavy alloy wheels before. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Very nice, make sure they are stored securely. (No doubt they are anyway.)
Otherwise new wheels have been known to go walkies all by themselves. ![]() ![]() |

Was thinking about protective socket right now actually as I look at them in front of the TV. I think my supplier should be OK as they sell a lot of bfg and other off road tyres.. Fingers crossed.. |

The Belize Green and White roof are a bit old school and not too every ones taste but I think with the Black Blindos all looks well.

Mine was coniston green. White on green is definitely the classic colour for a defender. Its one of the colour schemes that I want to go back to at some point.

Yeah, mine too. I went over those with black duck-tape to make sure they stayed stuck while I was fitting them. |

They look good, might need one of those myself soon. I also found a good alternative from Sealy, cheaper too via Demon Tweeks on eBay. Here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Alloy-Whe...20f72c89c1 |

That one is also available from Halfords, but slightly more expensive http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...;langId=-1
Interestingly Halfords say that as it is a thin wall design specifically for wheel nuts, it is excluded from the lifetime warranty. But they don't have the same info about there own brand. The Sealey seems to be plastic lined inside and out which would explain why the metal wall thickness is reduced. I t isn't obvious (to me anyway) whether the Halfords own brand is different? |
