Alarm
Some do it, some don't With mine after the initial turn of the key and it dying, I just blip the unlock on the remote and that solves it every time I presume its an option that is either turned on or off within the ECU and basically arms the immobilisation circuit after a certain time delay, hence when you fill up with fuel you've got out of the vehicle, haven't set alarm and then after a 'timed delay' go back and try to start it |

To test my theory, go out to your vehicle, unlock with remote, get in, start engine, move forwards 6", turn off, take keys, walk away (Don't set alarm), come back in 10mins, get in and try starting ....

No, only one and it only happens in the circumstances described above, ie when vehicle has been left unlocked, I actually think it's a good thing from a security point of view.
I hope it is the same for Matt110 |

I love this forum - thank you for the contributions guys much appreciated. I'll go out in an hour and try it and let you know.
How do you then re-sync the fob do you just lock it, unlock it and try again? In this instance, i left the ignition key in the ignition, and walked out and took the remote fob and the fuel cap key with me (on a different lanyard). I then got back in the car again and re-started it without locking it. |

It would be great if that's the problem, fingers crossed
I've never needed to resync, just pressed unlock whilst in the vehicle, it started on the next turn and off we go It only happens when vehicle is left unlocked for a while |

even when you leave unlocked and immob cuts in the chip in the fob should turn immob off automatic within couple of secs of putting ign on
things that can effect this are 2 fobs in same vehicle outside signal as you say if chip is not communicating as it should then the lock unlock should fix it |

was the fob close to ign barrel when you tried to start it if you got in and put fob and fuel key a distance from ign switch 9like in cup holder , then that's why it happened , fob needs to be within few inches of the ign switch , so on same key ring etc |

Thats it then that's the cause.
I've seperated the fob from the key as it bangs on my knee when I drive. So it can't communicate with the fob in the cubby box cup holder, thus wouldn't start because it hadn't communicated with the key recently as I hadn't locked/unlocked and it couldn't find the fob because i'd put it back in the cup holder. That makes complete sense. I'll go and try and replicate it then solve it by moving the fob to prove out but that does sound correct. |

problem solved
(hopefully) most cars the chip is in the key , so not a problem , defender its in the fob fob and key on same ring |

Yes, happens everytime and in different locations, at home, fuel station etc.
I do have an X-Eng shroud fitted so perhaps that that is blocking the signal ? |
