Swiss national day.
Click image to enlarge Rain is already over and done. It was more than badly needed here anyway, for the corn, for the sunseed, and for our own grass which looks more like hay now. We just got 6 mm this morning during 3/4 hours, not enough, and next week will be in the 30°C range again. Sun is appearing again now, good for the celebration tonight which is taking place right next to our house. Big tent for the dinner for all villagers, the speeches, etc. and as you can see below our villages fire brigade is already fully prepared for the fireworks at 10.00 PM. That is a tradition, our village throws every year on Aug 1 a huge firework in the game, again, also on the already harvested wheat field that you see in the picture. So tonight dinner, fireworks, and the party with a live band is free of charge, ... euh, paid by us local taxpayers. Now, back to work, I am making very good progress with replacement of the stainless screws by standard, almost done matter of fact. Nice quiet day to do this under the carport, right next to the party site for tonight where the band is already rehearsing. Need to be ready before 6 PM, will have to degrease myself before heading for the festivities, and don't want to miss the first Chasselas, Pinot gris, etc.... Ah Eric, for a moment I thought I saw a scratch on your bonnet - but no, it was a hair on my screen...
Well, the SVX really looks very clean and shining! Vincent, not so clean today. Replacing all stainless screws by standard since yesterday, and using copious amounts of Weicon anti seizing paste in the process, inside the holes, all over the screws thread, etc. So the SVX is not as clean as usual right now.
But tomorrow the carwash is open, and I have already made a reservation with the Mrs. for the Miele vacuumer. Still 12 screws to go..... Think won't be able to complete everything before the party tonight. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Matt, what do I use to clean them? Well, our local car wash of course, ....what else?
For seven years already doing like that, regular car wash (on average every forthnight I think), I never have washed the SVX even once myself. I have no money to buy a good sponge. And the SVX vinyl decals stay like new. Even if, thanks to a Irish def2 member, I have a full spare set of those original Land Rover SVX decals for a 110 safely in storage for eventual future need. But as said, after nearly 7 years, they look like they were on day one in the showroom. I understand not everybody is blessed with having well maintained scratchless car wash installations like we here have. I know France is a disaster in this respect, but then again there are other countries like Belgium where high quality car wash installations are like a cult object. Much more impressive than what we have here, but I have no complaints. I frankly do not understand the UK clearly, all the stories that I read here about some coon@$$ with a bucket and some aggressive brushes and solid soaps washing peoples cars. Wouldn't happen here, not in Belgium either. Eric Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. So today, the truck was still dusty from the big Safenwil event now 4 weeks ago, and there were a gazillion dead insects stuck to the front and to the windshield. After replacing all the bolts yesterday, time to get it cleaned today.
Used a insect removal spray on the front and the windshield, then a quick power spray to take those dead bodies off, and then the regular car wash... It came out like below, just needed to towel dry it at home thereafter. Vacuuming is for later in the week, temps are getting too hot here again for doing too much work.
