The bracket the vac pump bolts to has a gasket to the block
or high pressure fuel , not that uncommon for bolts coming worse , bolts are inside timing cover both in that same area |

Thanks Munch
I'll have a look later - another thing that I've found is that since taking the egr off & cleaning it I get an engine squeal at about 2500rpm - I'm a little concerned that it may be the turbo but it sounds like it's from the egr side of the engine. If I sit in neutral of clutch down it doesn't do it but if I'm driving in gear it does? Never rains does it!! Mike |

Normally when the egr get gummed up the carbon is forced inside to the gears and motor and there normally scrap , not worth trying to clean out
also if the carbon has got inside the seal is knackered and your be for ever mucking about with it , expensive but better to replace it |

I checked the gears and they were clean - the egr is doing it's cleaning cycle.

I would suspect that this is a leak in the induction or boost pipework causing a whistling noise when the turbos is boosting. It is not unusual on Pumas, but is usually a split in the hose from the turbo to the intercooler, or a leak between the exhaust manifold and the turbo. If you've distrubed the EGR I would be looking for something not fitted correctly in the area you've disturbed. |
