Painting is more forgiving - especially after a few chips, scratches or tyre changes.

It doesn't really matter either way. A decent tyre fitter will not damage paint on fitting. I have had two sets of wheels powdercoated and as long as you use a reputable coater the finish will last and is resilient (unless you go to Russia in Winter
