2.4 starter woes.
Occasionally my Puma will not turn over but it sometimes gives a click from the starter and nothing thereafter. It has gone days without turning over then will start fine as if nothing wrong.
GEMM ran diagnostics and nothing showed up. I have just replaced the battery for a better unit. I have a brand new "Prestolite" starter motor which i will change over.
Does anyone recognise this fault or have a step by step guide on starter replacement as it looks tight down there?

one thing that I understand is a common fault on the tranny engine relates to the glow plugs sucking too much power as I understand it. there's a very knowledgeable chap on here who has suggested disconnecting the glow plug circuit (starts fine without).

good luck. Thumbs Up

It might be worth checking that the relays under the driver's seat are properly and firmly in their sockets, and that the sockets actually grip the terminals of the relays well.

I went through a period of random starting problems, either failure to crank, or crank but not firing, or crank, fire, then die, etc, and eventually realised that whilst relays such as the wipers (under the dash) took considerable force to extract from their sockets (almost pulling the socket out of the mounting in fact) the starter, ignition, and main relays under the seat took very little effort to extract.

I carefully bent the legs of these relays slightly so that they were a really tight fit in the sockets, replaced them, and have had several years and 150,000 miles without problems since.

Since it is a zero cost repair, it is well worth a try.

Another possibility is a passive immobiliser fault, so you could try disabling PI (with Nanocom or similar) to eliminate this. It won't prevent the immobiliser from working when you lock the car, but does prevent the trouble-prone dialog between the keyfob and the AS10, which is usually where PI problems originate.

Disconnect battery, clean connections to starter, reconnect battery.

Mine went a similar way - it was thought to have been the battery but after changing it out for a new one the problem continued. it got harder and harder to start ... then one afternoon when my partner had the 110 the starter gave up all together about 60 miles from home - cue relay and then a workshop job to repalce the thing as I was away at the time ... the mech said it was not an easy job to do but now all better!
Sadly I had to fork out for a new battery when I could have done with out !
so change it early would be my recomendation !
