Sudden illumination of MIL Light on dash
Hi all,
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Today I started truck up (as normal) and suddenly the MIL light illuminated.
Drove a short distance (appx 1 Km) MIL light still on.
No change to engine performance and no 'weird' noises emanating from the engine.In other words, engine is behaving normally in the short distance I travelled.
Would welcome info.

If it's an 'acceptable within limits (like a P1103 MAF reading high but within limits) high or low' fault code that has illuminated it the MIL light it may well automatically reset after a few driving cycles and store the fact the fault was logged in your ECU. Otherwise you have no other option but getting it read and reset at a dealer.
I have a Scangauge which is one of the cheapest ways of reading and resettling faults...In such a circumstance as yours it would pay for itself with the first reset and save you the inconvenience of going to the dealers. (That's why I got one anyway).

MIL Light on!
Hi K9F,
Thanks for the info/advice.
Since yesterday when the MIL light came on, I have used the truck this morning and the light has gone off!
I presume that the reset, as you suggest, may have been conducted.
No other 'ill effects' concerning the engine.
I will keep an eye on things.

You're welcome! Glad it's come good for you! Any faultcode reading/resetting tool can be a valuable addition to your truck! They too can be very reasonable or very expensive depending how deep you want to go into the workings of your engine! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

They are based in Greece but delivery was excellent, only two days from ordering. I also got the blendmount kit as other people had been asking where to mount it as places are tight in the Puma, and adapted it so I could fit in on the mirror.

many thanks for the info which has been gratefully received - sounds like a good investment.
Just one minor point:
After looking at the photos of the location of your scangauge on top of the mirror. My mirror vibrates considerably on motion - do you have a problem with the vibrating mirror and the positioning of the scangauge?

Joe,

The mirror is attached to the arm on a simple ball and socket system! I think with the mirror removed from the arm you may be able to use a screwdriver to tighten/manipulate the retaining tabs of the socket to hold the mirror tighter on the arm! As I am the only driver of my truck the Scangauge and associated cables are tywrapped so the mirror doesn't move at all! This is going to sound strange but with my tinted windows when I look in the mirror I can see what's in front of me not behind! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

My light came on - then went off after the 3 cycle stop start. Came back a few weeks later - and didn't go away - logged fault with ERG.

If it comes back - get the code read.

Thanks once again for the info guys.
No reappearance of the MIL light illumination (sounds a bit like Blackpool Laughing ) so far.
Will keep an eye on things.
