Future Offroad shop in Aberdeenshire area - Your Feedback
Hello Ladies and Gents,

Some of you may have seen in some of my other posts, i hope to be moving to Aberdeenshire in the very near future and within doing so i hope to open up a off road centre, for new and current Land Rover Owners to come along for the day to try out there cars off road, or for the off road virgins, to learn how to use the Land Rover to the full potential.

I also hope to setup a Offroad shop, selling all "Top Quality" types of epuipment from steering and diff guards all the way through to your external roll cages, warn winches and arb diff lockers etc

To start off with i would only be selling the items and then hope to progress in the fitting side as well

I would like to know what your feed back is on the matter and if this would help you to have somewere to come and see the product before you buy and ask the questons you might have also. This will include a delivery service door to door

The Shop will be located near Echt for point of refefence

*if you have any extra ideas or questions please free to express your ideas and questions

Thank you for you time in reading this and look forward to hearing from you all

Things I would consider are:

The offroad "population" up there - is it big enough to sustain a bricks and mortar "shop" ?
Unless you have exclusive rights to certain products why would people buy from you?
How do you compete with internet prices for things like diff guards, steering guards, lights etc?
With things like ARB lockers, winches etc can you match the larger retailers? If so where does that leave your margin?
What is the rationale behind moving into fitting? for what products? Would you be offering serving too?
If you are going to have people driving offroad at your shop/place of business, what's the cost of the insurance?
Does that kind of usage require council approval and if so, what are the terms of it / cost?
Will you be selling vehicles too?
What is the unique selling point of what you're planning to offer?
How much stock will you keep? Is there space to keep it?
Are the premises yours already? if not will you be renting? If renting what kind of lease? how long?

I used to run a venture capital fund so forgive the blunt questions - but these are things to consider if you have not already.

There are a few clubs up here. The closest one to you, and me, is the Buchan Off Road Drivers Club

http://www.bordc.net/

If you haven't already done so it might be worth contacting them to get their thoughts on the viability of something like what you're proposing.

Certainly there are plenty Landies up here Very Happy

Echt's not far from me. The BORDC often has an event about a mile from me in a local quarry. 'm sure they'd be interested as well. Ben

No, but i to have been considering it. I was talking to a mate of mine who used to be a member who lead me to believe it was a more hardcore only club. Russell
