I see from reading through the forum that some recommend the fitting of the fuel cooler guard even though the 2.2 does not have the cooler fitted.
Are the pipes really at risk when off-roading? I see few different makes out guard out there all look the same - Devon 4x4, electroplated steel - Terrafirma, electroplated steel - Wildbear, electroplated steel - Nakatanga do both steel and aluminium Will ally one be strong enough if protection is needed? And obviously Entreq do a really expensive one |

I've had it in for about 3 years now, no rust signs so far.
I could have Dinitrolled it but decided to leave it alone. |

Maybe not true for all 2.2s, but mine has a cooler. It's a really vulnerable position, and given the consequence of a knock then a good thing to fit a guard. Saying that the likelihood of damage may be low, never seen a post from anyone who has damaged one? |

After one quite loose stone/rocky trip , decided to fit one the 09 110 5 year ago,, has been fitted to all Defender since, even though the last 2015 one has no cooler,, the pipes are at risk , and jave been know to be damaged offroad,, both inconvenient and costly for what they are
Devon 4x4 fitted,,not dear, works well, would buy the same again California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

I'm in the opposite camp, not needed. I don't have one fitted.
My 90 has spent 8 years doing some pretty serious off roading [As members on here can confirm] and I've never had an issue, not even any signs of contact or scrapes on mine. If it was 'that' vulnerable It's highly unlikely LR would of sited it there Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

For the cost of what ?? £40 or thereabouts and after seeing at least one with ripped out fuel lines at ? IIRC over £250 plus the grief !! has to be a no brainer !!
But each to their own,, and when you hear the Moroccan beach stones rattling on the underside,, give some piece of mind !! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

i had one a home in the garage ready to fit for a maroc trip, just hadnt got around to it.
two weeks after it had arrived i was driving a site with a fair bit of brash on the ground, small cut off went right up between chassis and pipe into cooler on my 2.4 kinked the pipe, i was lucky it didnt break it off, guess what - the guard went straigth on after that! That's the stuff I've had trouble with in another non-fuel cooler related incident.
Just sticks into anything in the way, surprising what it can da game or at least bend. |
