Is there a right way up and a wrong way up to bolt the shocklink adapter plate to the existing tow bar?

Ideally you need an adjustable tow hitch to fit a Shocklink to. Also bear in mind the cost of the Shocklink and the need to remove it when not towing as if you don’t it will soon be nicked.

Personally I swear by Shocklinks, I am sure there will soon be people who say they are expensive bits of nonsense but those who say that have never towed with one. I would not be without mine as its makes towing so less stressful and absorbs all the shocks rather than they being transferred though your caravan.

On twin or single axels it’s your choice but bear in mind some sites will not let you pitch a twin axle caravan due to size and the fact that if you are no good at reversing onto the pitch twin axles can easily rip up the grass. Before buying make sure you check your licence, if taken test after January 1997 you will be required to take a towing test, if before you will be fine, but be careful of twin axles.

Width and length
The maximum trailer width for any towing vehicle is 2.55 metres. The maximum length is 7 metres for a trailer towed by a vehicle weighing up to 3.5 tonnes (3,500 kilograms) some twin axles are longer. Unless you have a HGV licence then you are ok
