How do I reset the oil service light on a 15MY Defender
Can anyone tell me how to reset the oil service light on my 2015 model year Defender. I tried the combination of the brake and throttle pedals but it didn't work. It's not due a service for a couple of months and it's only done 600 miles.

Take it back to a dealer and ask them to turn it off and ask why its done it?

The service interval is set at the factory, not the dealers as far as I am aware.

My build date was 27th Jan but I picked it up 1st March, so my indicator was lit for a month or so before the service at the end of Feb

You haven't done over 12k mileage have you?

No approx 700 miles only, it's due the service next month.
I just wanted to reset the warning until next month.
I really think it's a scandalous waste of the earths resources to dump the oil after so few miles, it isn't even black yet,
there is no way that oil is junk. One dealer I phoned today wants £326 for the first service.

Don't forget that the main reason for the OSL is to guard against engine damage resulting from oil dilution caused by the DPF regeneration cycle. Even on a low mileage vehicle it is possible that, dependent on usage profile, it may need the oil changed. 600 miles does sound ridiculously low though.

Old oil os recycled alot these days, that's if its disposed of through correct means. Land rover will certainly do this .

Its mental the price LR charge for an oil change their is absolutely no value for money. It is simply the most expensive service stamp you can buy.

Just ignore it and wait for the service bud. Pedal tricks are awkward to use I've never been successful with them

A lot of old oil goes to tarmac companys and burnt to heat the tarmac

used to be able to sell it , it was only few pence a litre but if you had few hunderd gallons taken it was worth it , but now the storage regs etc have tightened up and you have to get rid of it more regularly the recycling companys know this and stopped paying for it

I will be interested to know why it is on.

On a def 2012 as mine, it is easy to do it.
Unfortunally , even if I have do it 2 or 3 times , I do not remembrer exacly how !
i am on hollydays and I have notted at m'y office !
I am sure somebody will tell it go you.
Otherwise I will be back in 10 days

It comes up at the bottom of the mileage display in the speedometer on start up, it gos out after a few seconds.

1. Ignition ON pressed both “brake” and “accelerator pedal” full down for 15 seconds

2. Oil light started to flash.

3. Turned the ignition OFF and left it for around 2 mins.

OK.

Tried them both.

The transit method is clearly far more simple. Not sure what that says about the imtended drivers of said vehicle or maybe the engineers behind it! In any event it did not work on my Defender.

The second method did not work either; however, I did notice that after repeadedly turning on the ignition to try the first method the service message has now disappeared. I think this may only be temporary, due to so many ignition ons in a short period of time, so I'll try again later.

Also, I didn't realise that just pressing the trip reset before inserting the ignition key fires up the trip and odo recorders for maybe 10 seconds. Makes sense allowing to check the mileage on vehicles without needing the keys.

Finally, I noticed that on turning the ignition on but not starting the vehicle, after the service indicator goes out, and the the screen turns to the normal odo and trip recorders, the red oil lamp starts to flash on and off. I'm assuming this is linked to the service indicator.

Update - well it's several days after I tried the resets and I can confirm that the oil service indicator has not appeared again. I'm not certain now what the trick was but I think it may have been holding down the trip reset button before turning on the ignition and then turning on the ignition with the button still held down. I counted to 10 before releasing the button; but the reset may even be less than that.

Would be interested to see if anyone else can replicate this.

1. Turn the ignition on and immediately press both brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously full down for 15 seconds.

2. When the oil light (picture of an oil can) starts to flash turn off the ignition.

3. Release the brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously.

4. Wait for two full minutes.

4. Turn on the ignition and see if the OIL SERVICE message has gone. If not repeat the procedure exactly. It DOES work but not always first time. Mine cleared on the third attempt.
