Hi Ryan,
A question. There is confusing and conflicting information regarding the end of production date for the current Defender. Can you kindly confirm when the production of the current Defender will end please? Cheers, Peter. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

What a great sales and marketing ploy to increase sales!
"Here we are in 2010, so let's tell everyone we will stop building Defenders in 2013, then in 2013 we will tell everyone we can get another two year extension - but only until December 2015 - the end. Then they will all rush out and buy what they think are the last ones, plus we can sell some 'final' specials at top price. Then because demand and sales will be so good, we can then extend the deadline again and again and go on like this for evermore." |

Hi YOLO110
Thank you for your post. I note your query and can advise that end of production for current Defender is scheduled for December 2015, however, we have not announced a specific date for the final day of production. Regards Ryan |

Makes you wonder about the special editions
Not very special if they keep building them for another 3 years till the new one is due out. |

If the final day of defender production can be extended to about June 2018 I'll get my order in for one as my present 2015 'final year of production' 90HT will be due it's MOT then......

Hi Ryan Thank you for your reply. May I ask that can you clarify the potential open ambiguity in your response with your words, "however, we have not announced a specific date for the final day of production" by confirming that production of the current Defender will actually end in December 2015 and will not extend into 2016? Kind regards, Peter. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Hi YOLO110
To clarify, production for current Defender is scheduled to cease in December 2015 however, we have not stipulated which date within that month will be the final production day. Regards Ryan |

As long as it is after 7 December it is fine with me, because I don't want to take the Heritage tour on that afternoon with an idled empty production line. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Are the same people who complained about Defender production stopping now complaining at it not stopping soon enough?

“SCHEDULED to cease in December 2015” Bit of a weasel word that, innit?
To quote Mandy Rice-Davies: “Well, he would say that, wouldn’t he?” Peter |

Hi Ryan, The word 'Scheduled' does not define an end date. I would be most grateful if you could provide a definitive answer regarding the various rumours about production being extended into 2016 are indeed true (see link). http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/business/b...et-9656584 This is actually important. For me, and I am sure many others, my order for a 'Celebration' edition model was made with the knowledge and extensive advertising and PR information direct from JLR, that Defender production WOULD end, not just scheduled to end, in December 2015 and as such, these would be some of the last vehicles off the production line. That fact of course does have future historical importance, significance and financial value and I put a 'value' on that fact when placing an order for my Celebration Edition in January 2015. IF production continues into 2016, then I, like many others may now reconsider our order options as I would still like to have one of the last vehicles off the production line. So if this is to be 2016, I would simply request that correct information is provided so I like others can make decisions based upon facts, rather than schedules. Ryan, I do not think this is an unreasonable question at all. If you need to escalate this to senior JLR management to obtain a clear and unambiguous reply, can a straight forward and honest answer be given to the question... ''Will Defender production end in December 2015. If not, when will production definitely end?' Kind regards, Peter. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |
