Which coating for the floors, advice needed please
Hello all, after collecting my first Landrover - a TD5 defender 90 I have set about giving it a good clean and going through bits that need doing. I have removed the seats and all the linings from the floor and under the seats.
question is what would be a suitable substance/wax/rust preventative/paint to coat the floors and surrounding areas with ?
I have completely read the rust prevention sticky but cannot find what product would be suitable for this.

thanks in advance
Chris.

If you mean inside the cabin then surely the paint is doing that job? Ray

Wax type coatings can get a bit messy, especially inside a car, how about this stuff ? -

No connection to me by the way, but I've used POR15 products before and they are VERY good Thumbs Up

Be honest i think the last thing you want to paint the floor in would be rubberized paint , if water gets underneath it it will rot 10 times faster

i would wire brush round the edges of the plates which is where they normally go first and where the ally plates meet the steel parts annd then paint with normal waxoyl , it will smell for a while but smell will go fairly quick even quicker if you leave carpet/matt out for couple of days

When I picked up my 90 from the dealers, the first thing I did when I got home ( instead of enjoying it and having a play ) is remove the seats, the rubber matting and basically strip the cabin bar the dash.
Partly because for a £20000 vehicle it was handed over in a frankly disgusting state, obviously because it wasn't a £115,000 RR Autobiography , and their valeters ( don't make me f@@#+%g laugh) assumed it would be full of straw and cow crap, because surely only farmers buy these things !, and they don't care what state it is in Shocked Rolling Eyes

When I removed the rubber matting/sound deadening , I found both footwells had a pool of water in them Big Cry
So having dried them out thoroughly , I dropped my ACF 50 bottle in a bowl of boiling water , which is great as it really thins out the consistency from too thick to more like water viscosity.
This makes it easy to spray/apply, and means it can creep, and run into all the nooks and crannys, under and into panel joints, and overlaps, and under bolt heads, washers etc.
On the large floor panels areas, I wiped it lightly with a cloth, to spread it evenly, the rest I left to creep and spread.

Having checked it recently, nearly a year on, it looks just as I left it, and you can still feel the lubricity on all the metal pieces. "Procrastination is the thief of time"

No worries Thumbs Up
I was using the manual pump dispenser/spray thing I got with the bottle of ACF , it will work the same with aerosols ( assuming it is available in aerosol form?) laying it on top of a radiator will do the same, ( if you have the heating on this time of year that is.)
I took the spray top off mine and just stood the full bottle in a pan full of boiling water , as I was wary of the affect the heat may have on the trigger/pump function.
I used the same for the door hinges / bolt areas, and rear cappings, as you will likely know, when at normal temps, it just splots out in a sort of blobby splat and doesn't run or spread particularly.

Cheers,

Nick. "Procrastination is the thief of time"
