England 2005 Defender 90 Td5 XS CSW Bonatti Grey
Talking of 'cool motors', my 90 XS TD5 takes about 8 miles (of derestricted roads) to get up to temperature.
Is this usual or should I check the thermostat?

I guess it also depends if you keep in a garage, amd how cold it is. I have seen some land rovers with covers on the grill.. anyone know if these are worth looking into?

Like Laurie - I have an XS with heated screen and seats.. it's still a landy though

I normally get in mine, open the front vents, open the windows and start driving. Within about 200 yards the hot air has escaped and I've stopped sweating!! Land Rovers are an addiction. Toyotas are for quitters.

Slow warm up
Our TD5 takes about 2 miles before the heater starts to work, but a further 5 miles before the temp gauge reads normal. I fitted one of the radiator grille covers last winter and it did improve matters a bit. (bought it off ebay, army surplus.....but you have to take the grille off and fit the cover instead)
